Adoption Update: Lucy!

An update from Lucy’s forever family!

Lucy came home with me in early June. She was with her foster father about a month, but Lucy had a cherry eye that needed to be attended to. Since I work from home, it made sense for Lucy to come stay with me so that I could help her through her recovery. And so we went the foster-to-adopt approach. But honestly, from the moment she trotted through my front door, there was never any question in my mind that we were meant to be and that she had found her forever home.

When she first arrived, her name wasn’t Lucy. But the name her previous owners had given her just wasn’t right, so I took one look at this little red headed lady and declared to myself “I Love Lucy”… and so she was renamed.

Lucy has settled in nicely. Now that a few months have passed her true personality is really starting to come out. She is a little clown. She is a little stubborn. And she is all love and cuddles. Lucy has a “cousin” who is her BFF and I could watch the two of them play and wrestle for days. Interesting since this is the exact reason her previous owners surrendered her – claiming she didn’t get along with the other dogs in their house. Lucy isn’t perfect (who is?) but she certainly doesn’t have major issues with other dogs. Really she just seems to love them all and wants to play all the time – even when the others don’t. So we are working on our manners and have been attending Basic Obedience classes. We are both learning a lot.

I think Lucy knows that she is “home” and she has started to express her independence a little. At first she wouldn’t let me out of her sight… but now if I look around and notice she isn’t there, I seek her out and will often find her buried deep under the duvet on my bed or curled up in a sunny corner. And whenever I see her or she wanders back into the room, I just smile!

I am eternally grateful to the team at BTRC for the love and care they gave to Lucy and for rescuing her from her previous owners. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been stopped on the street by people who want to know more about her. I always use this opportunity to plug your amazing organization and encourage anyone thinking of getting a dog to check you out and to consider adopting. I can’t think of anything else that I have done in my life that has brought as much pleasure as bringing Lucy home.
