Foster
We are currently in urgent need of pet-free and adult-only foster homes across Canada.
Traditionally, we are most busy in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. We do, however, receive requests for help from across the country and are working to establish a larger volunteer and foster base outside of Ontario. In BC, for instance, the number of dogs we are being asked to help is increasing past the number of foster homes we currently have available.
We sincerely appreciate all who apply to foster but are presently prioritizing applications from pet-free/adult-only homes – or from those with dog training experience and/or the ability to separate the foster dog from their own dog(s).
Since we don’t always know a foster dog’s history or their tolerance level for different situations, out of concern for the safety of all it is our usual policy not to place foster dogs in homes with children under the age of six.
Our need for specific types of foster homes can change, so please check back in future if you do not meet the current requirements.
We also invite you to apply to be a volunteer with us!
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Boston Terrier Rescue Canada (BTRC) does not have a shelter facility, so all rescued dogs stay in foster homes until forever homes can be found.
As a foster parent, you will be asked to commit to providing a temporary home for your foster dog until they are adopted. When you become a foster volunteer, we do our very best to match you with a dog that suits your home.
How long they will be in your care can be difficult to predict. Every dog is different and may require different levels of care and training. Very few things, however, are more rewarding than to take in a sad, lonely, despondent dog and see them blossom into a loving, happy and treasured pet. When they leave for their new forever home, you will have the joy of knowing the part you played in making it all possible!
BTRC will supply the resources you need while the dog is in your care. We pay all veterinary costs for your foster dog until adoption. We can also supply essentials such as harness, leash, collar, crate, etc. Some fosters choose to supply food for their foster dog, and while this is much appreciated and help to alleviate some costs for rescue, it is not a requirement of fostering.
You will be asked to provide your foster dog with love and emotional support during this crucial transitional time. You may also need to travel to veterinary appointments, administer medications and with the necessary support, provide required training.

FILL OUT A FOSTER APPLICATION
Once your application is processed, a BTRC volunteer will contact you to discuss your application and our foster program in more detail.
We will also schedule a home visit with you – either virtually or in-person. This will provide you with a second set of eyes to help identify possible safety concerns for a curious canine, escape routes, etc. We don’t bring our white gloves! It’s also an opportunity to ask any further questions you may have.
