ZACH
Adopted May 2006
Just wanted to give you a quick update on Zach and thank everyone once again. He's simply a joy and it's a match made in heaven! Zach fits in perfectly with our lifestyle, or should I say we fit perfectly into his, lol.
We had a wonderful summer between both home and the cottage. He's quite a little water-baby. I'm attaching pics of him swimming in the lake with "daddy". He seemed to be a little bottom-heavy, so he really loves his new lifejacket - so much easier! He likes to run in after his doggy-disc from the beach, or he dives in off the dock - only when he's told it's ok, he's so obedient. Then he literally swims in circles around us in the water. He's so much fun!
And yes, his doggy-disc Frisbee is still his favorite toy. We have to buy about one a month, because he plays with it so much. At $20 a pop, I'm sure we're keeping the company in business, lol. I also had to
pick up a little dog agility course for us to try now that it's not so hot outside, that should be a lot of fun too. Who knows maybe he'll be a hotdog at that and we can try out for a team.
I would say that he's officially bi-lingual now. Mommy still speaks to him in French, Daddy in English. And I'm still learning new commands that he knows, I just try phrases, sometimes they work, sometimes, not,
trial and error I guess. The latest are dans la maison, dans l'auto (in the house, car).
We're all ready for the winter; I got him the cutest bright yellow snowsuit and Muttluks. He'll proudly model them for whoever cares to see them, he's such a character!
Thanks to all of you once again, all of us truly appreciate it.
Jim, Leslie and Zach

Oliver
AKA Dempsey
Adopted August 2006
Oliver here !!!
Hope everything is going well with you. I am really enjoying my new home. Well, I guess it's not so new anymore but it is nice to be settled in with my terrific pal Megan now. She and me === we are a team!! Lots of long walks in the forest every morning and a huge yard to play in all afternoon. I have out grown my harness and have a spivvy new red one now, as well as two new coats for the winter. I'm not too keen on putting them on right now but I guess when the cold weather comes I will appreciate them more. I have grown a bit but I am still a titch compared to Megan and all her friends. But they know I'm a feisty kind of guy and they love playing with me. Megan and I love to chase the chipmunks and squirrels in the yard but I don't think we'll ever catch them.

Chloe
Adopted May 2006
Next week is our six month anniversary with Chloe, so I thought I'd send you an update. She makes us laugh every day and is the best thing we've ever done. We all walk everyday, Chloe & I are still involved in agility training and are going to start competing in the spring,I think.
Chloe has adjusted very well. We are having a lot of fun. We've been camping, spent some time at a farm, were up north to a cottage and have had a busy summer. She gets along well with her "cousin" and they have a great time playing.
Here's some shots - thanks for everything!

Marty
Adopted July 2004
Marty is a four-year-old male Boston Terrier who was on his way to the Humane Society when a kind-hearted neighbour took him in and contacted the Boston Terrier Club of Canada Rescue for help. Marty was abandoned by his family, which included five children, for unknown reasons. He is in good health, fully housetrained, very social and exceptionally well behaved. How anyone could abandon this sweet boy is beyond comprehension.
Marty is a goofy looking fellow - his lower jaw is too large for his head, which causes a very pronounced (and quite adorable) under bite. His legs are disproportionably long for his body size, which makes it difficult for him to sit in a conventional dog-like manner. His eyes are also incredibly large and “buggy”. These quirks only add to his wonderful personality, agreeable nature and incredible cuteness!
Marty was fostered in Ottawa with Laurie and her wonderful family (including Boston foster sister Suzy). In Laurie’s care, Marty started to learn how to be loved in a safe environment. It took Marty a few weeks to begin to enjoy being touched. It appeared to his foster family that he just did not seem used to being touched by people. With Laurie’s love, and a great canine companion in Suzy, Marty got over his incredible shyness and learned to love to play and be snuggled.
Shortly after entering foster care, Marty was matched with his new forever family. Steve and Steve were looking for a second Boston to join their family, which already included Rhufus, an eighteen month old male Boston. Within a week of the match, Steve, Steve and Rhufus drove to Ottawa to meet Marty. It was a perfect connection from the moment they all met. Both Rhufus and Marty have an insatiable appetite for fetch, chewing on rawhide and ripping all the stuffing out of toys.
Marty has settled into his new home very well. He and Rhufus are the best of friends and completely inseparable. They play together all day, tear it up at the park in the evening competing for the “Fastest Boston” award as they chase their ball and snuggle up together at night on the sofa to watch some TV and relax. Marty has become a very spoiled little man, and deserves nothing but the best after all he’s been through.
Rhufus is still a tiny bit jealous of the special attention directed to Marty, but he is getting better with sharing. For his part, Marty says “thank you” in his own way. You can see in his eyes that he’s content and happy. His kisses are over the top (he has a gigantic tongue!) and he has really taken to defending his new home from such menaces as squirrels, delivery boys and the mailman. Marty has also put on a little bit of (much needed) weight over the last ten weeks and seems more interested in eating. His coat has gotten shinier, and his stamina for outdoor play is ever increasing.
Steve and Steve are very glad to have had the opportunity to give Marty a forever home that will always be safe, secure and stable, not to mention lots of fun!

Cruiser
Adopted November 2006
Cruiser is a Boston-mix who was saved from death row in a shelter.
Cruiser's lucky day was November 25th, 2006, when he left the BTCCR
foster program to start his life with his new "dad" Gary. Gary reports
that this "bundle of energy", enjoyed his first holiday with his new
family and is very much loved by all, although getting him to sit still
long enough to pose for photos is a challenge!

Toad
Permanent Foster Care
I admit that I was the type of person that would have never
considered adopting a canine senior citizen. I had convinced myself
that an older dog wouldn’t fit into our busy, active lifestyle. So
when I was asked to be a permanent foster home for an older Boston
gentleman, I was at first a bit apprehensive. It was impossible
though, to say no, when I heard his sad story. We happily made the
decision to welcome him into our family for what would be the remainder
of his life. It would prove to be one of the best decisions I have
ever made.
Sam arrived at our house looking slightly lost. I soon realized
though, that this was one feisty old man. He promptly put both our
Boston and our Great Dane in their places. When bed time came, he
hopped right onto our bed and gave me a look as if to say “this will do
just fine”.
Sam is now known as “The Toad”, and has been with us over a year. He
has also become my best friend. I don’t like to be the type of mom
that plays favorites, but I am so guilty of having a soft spot for my
Toad. Although he is 11 years old and suffers from Cushings Disease,
he has more than enough spunk to keep up with both of our younger dogs.
The Toad loves to play tug-a-war and go for walks in the country, but
he also loves quiet time to sit on your lap and cuddle.
I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone at BTR for giving
Bostons like the Toad a chance for a happy ending. I especially want
to thank all those who helped the Toad on the journey to me, and for
all the donations that help to provide for his ongoing medical care.
We feel so privileged to have the Toad as a part of our family and to
have been lucky enough to share our life with such a special old
gentleman. I think I now realize the real reason why I was
apprehensive to adopt an older dog. I am terrified that the time we
have together will be too short, and of the sadness I’ll feel when he’s
gone.

Kate
Adopted Summer 2005
Kate had been abandoned in a rental property by her former owner, and
luckily was discovered and surrendered to our rescue program. Even
after being so let down by her human, Kate remained affectionate and
loving with people (although she wasn't as fond of other dogs!). After
receiving medical treatment, and being spayed, Kate was ready to start
her new life, and was lucky to find a wonderful new home with Peter and
Roxie. January 2007 update: "With Kate all is just wonderful, she is
full of pep and vinegar, she wants to play all day, she has several
teddy bears and toys, and we have to chase her for them, she is a lot
milder around other dogs too. All in all we would not give her up for
anything, she has really grown on to us, our children love her too".

Betty Lou
Adopted January 2006
Betty Lou is a 7 year old female boston terrier and this is her story.
A friend of ours had recently adopted his two bostons named Lucky and Lucy from the BTCC. I knew from the moment that I met Lucky and Lucy that I wanted one of my own. I contacted the BTCC and was put on a waiting list for a rescue who would be a good match for us. Months passed before we got the email letting us know that there was a female boston who needed a forever home. We decided to foster the dog first so we could see what it was like to own our first dog. I knew from the moment that I laid eyes on her that she was the dog for us.
She came to us on a winter evening in December of 2005. She was very shy and skittish. We didn’t want to overwhelm her so we let her get accustomed to the new environment on her own time. I decided to take a few days off work to be with her so the transition would be smoother. However, it was a bit of a rocky road. All of Betty Lou’s commands were in French and she also showed some signs of aggression/dominance over us. However, we weren’t going to let that be an obstacle. My husband and I talked it over and in January of 2006 we signed the official adoption papers to make Betty Lou a permanent part of our family. Once we adopted her we invested in some training which quickly paid off and we learned a little French and she has learned English.
Betty Lou is a part of the family. She is very loving, affectionate and smart. We are so glad she is a part of our lives.

Kimmie
Adopted July 2007
I have finally found my true home!
This woman who is now my Mom (Sharon), is the best. I never learned how to play with toys, and I am really not interested in learning now, all I want is someone to share a nice big lazy boy chair with, and boy did I luck out!
I am the type of dog who belongs to everyone, but I always have my eyes and ears tuned for Mommy. She is my woman. I do have to admit sometimes that she forgets my rules though and I have to punish her by dumping the garbage - Wait a second, that just gets me an evening where she will only let me lay on the couch instead of in her chair - that isn't working out for me so well.
I am becoming more and more confidant in my surroundings, and I love car rides. I also adore going to my Mommy's work - She works in a pharmacy, and all of the people love to see me in there. And who wouldn't?!

Adopted September 2006
She is a Boston Terrier/Pug mix (BUG) and was adopted by us on September 22nd, 2006. She was 4 years old at the time and Nancy Williams was the foster mom.

Bobby Gimble
Adopted July 2007
Bobby Gimbles and the Bright promise of the North!
Well this little man came in a small crate which he had to share with another wee dog plucked from despair by an all breed rescue. I was uncertain at first about trying to get him out of the crate but as I reached in he tried to make himself as small as possible – his ears down and unable to meet my gaze. He was skinny and dirty and his paws were inflamed. A sad boy. You can see from his “Before” picture that life had only given him sadness and emptiness. I stopped at a small parkette to let him have a walk about and stretch his legs. He didn’t know what grass was and was to shell shocked to even walk – so I picked him up to take him to a spot in the clearing away from the street and as I walked with him his front paws moved as if he was paddling in water. For some reason his paddling the air struck me as the sweetest and saddest thing.
Within ten days he was showing a little bit of interest in taking food (quickly!) from my fingers but would still cower away and shudder if I tried to pat him. I let him be – I realized that being a “pet” would come much later. First, he needed to just trust his environment that it would be safe and warm and no demands would be made. And so it went for many more weeks. In time, he learned to come to the woods and fields with my other dogs on a long leash. He would feel safe by circling around me every few steps like a horse on a lunge lead. He would make me smile when he would have a burst of running in the grass with his jowels drawn back in a big smile and his eyes bright and happy. I still worried that he would ever be able to be a normal sort of house dog for a new forever home.
After three months he was showing enough improvement that we decided to see if we could find the right forever home for our Bobby. Quiet, gentle and sweet of spirit I had to try and find people that would understand him and the wonderful companion he would become. Bobby’s prayers (and mine!) were answered in a retired couple from Collingwood. They were life time Boston lovers and had a fifteen month old girl named “Missi” who would be Bobby’s new friend if things worked out. JoAnne and Alan came to visit Bobby one weekend and brought their girl too. Bobby loved Missi and Alan seemed to know right away how to be with Bobby – they didn’t mind his shyness and seemed to see the personality behind the shyness.
Here is a bit of my last email from Bobby’s new home – “…Thought I would send along a couple of recent pictures of Bobby. He is the cutest guy. He is really learning the ways of our house, and seems to be enjoying himself. He & Missi get along so well, nuzzling & running together in the yard. He is turning into Mr. Personality. He even allows people walking on the street to pat his head, mostly when they are riding in the carrier on the bike.!! He loves his walks and he sure loves his treats. His coat has got even shinier. He is Alan's little buddy, and is quite curious when he can't see him, and he will go upstairs to seek him out, yet he understands if we HAVE to go out without them, that we will be back.
All in all, he is a great asset to our family, and we just love him. “
I was so lucky to have the chance to help Bobby. He has an incredibly sweet nature and he helped me as well. He taught me about patience and letting things come in their own time and, about trust. I know he will be loved for the rest of his life - he surely has a special place in my heart.

Mykey
Adopted August 28, 2007
Mykey is a sweet, loving, good-tempered five-year-old neutered male Boston. At some point in his history, he developed a problem with male canine marking indoors, and as a result of that problem, was surrendered to the Boston Terrier Club of Canada Rescue program.
Mykey entered foster care in May 2007, and was placed with Steve and Steve and their two Boston Terriers Rhufus and Marty (also an alumni of BTCCR).
This little guy made outstanding progress while in foster care, and was cured of his marking problem in less than two weeks through a gentle, but firm form of behaviour modification.
Mykey got along so well with his two Boston foster brothers that Steve and Steve decided to make him a permanent addition to the family. It wasn’t supposed to work out this way: Steve and Steve were just supposed to break Mykey of his behavioural problem, provide him with care for a month or two, place him for adoption and then move on to the next foster dog. However, as they soon found out, helping a dog with special needs overcome a major obstacle can result in the formation of an incredible bond.
When he is not chasing his brothers around the house, Mykey loves to suck on stuffed toys, splash in the creek, go for long runs in the forest, and loves his position as co-pilot in the car.
Mykey requires a lot of love and attention, and in turn, provides buckets of love and kisses to his family. He is very demanding when he wants a little TLC, and will come over and pet the nearest human on the arm to indicate he wants them to scratch his back or rub his belly. He really is an incredible boy!

DJ
Adopted September 23, 2007
Hi All, DJ here.
So I’ve arrived at my new home. The trip was long, but luckily I slept through most of it so it went quickly. As soon as I got in I promptly “marked” all my new parent’s bags. I don’t know why they cleaned them so quickly, silly parents. I explored my new yard and ran around it a few times to try it out; it’ll do nicely. My new parents put out my bed for me so I set them strait and jumped onto their bed with them; they will catch on. Anyhow, it’s super late and I’ve got to catch some shut eye, I have to wake up at 5am after all. So goodnight everyone and check out the pics of me!
Thanks!

Buster Brown
Adopted September 28 2007
Dear Kelly,
When anyone asks me about Buster Brown, I always say the same thing from my heart “he is the dog we were supposed to have”. The way that we found him, the way it all came together, and the way that we instantly became a family, makes me believe that more than anything. When I found him on the BTCC website, I couldn’t believe it, as we had been looking for a long time. I completed the application, believing that he would be gone for sure, and then I got a phone call. From there it all happened so fast, that by the time we had out in home inspection with Mike the foster dad and little Buster, I cried when he took him back home at the end of the visit. Have you ever seen a dog hug? I have… the first time I met him he crawled into my arms, wrapped his paws around my neck and hugged me. I remember talking with Mike, and finding out what Busters issues were and I couldn’t believe that this little dog, who loved everybody so much could have had that sort of a start in life, but that is one of the things that makes him so remarkable.
We have had him in our lives for almost two months now, and wow, is he ever doing fantastic. He has had a busy half a summer, with camping, and boating and a never ending array of new experiences. And he has faced each new experience with his ever present enthusiasm, and now trusts that we are going to be there for him always. His spirit, and love for life is contagious and he always makes us laugh. He LOVES everybody, and everyone in our lives loves him back. Despite his canine aggression issues, we have made major headway in that department, and after careful introductions he even has several canine friends now. He is so smart and eager to please that training him in basic commands was almost too easy, and he is learning more every single day.
I honestly don’t know what we ever did without him, and I can never thank his foster dad Mike, you, and all your staff enough for the precious gift you have brought into our lives.
We are looking forward to many, many years of happiness and adventure with our little guy.
I have attached a few recent pictures, as you’ll be able to see I think he loves us as much as we love him.
With deepest gratitude,
Nadine Meyer

Gus
Adopted September 10 2007
Hello Gail and Kelly,
Thought you guys would love an update of Mr. Gus.
His marking is no more! He only marked once in the house (within the first month) and once in the hallway in our building (about a week later). He has been "mark-free" ever since! We are so proud of him. Gus and Vince are the best of buds... The boys play play play.... non-stop and size does not matter; Gus can pin Vince on his back in a matter of seconds and take the ball away. Vince also enjoys the occasional teasing by holding the ball too high for Gus to reach.
We have done alot of camping this summer, and Gus has to be the best camping dog I have ever known. He does not need to be tied at all, I put a bell on his collar so I can hear him, but he won't go farther then a few feet from the campsite, even when he sees a squirrel or bird! He has learned the word "leave-it", cause he can get very fixated on objects (other dogs, birds, squirrels) one quick leave it and he's back to focus on the task at hand... which is moving forward with our walk. I take the boys a few times a week for a hike or a run off-leash, and they just have the time of their lives, both know the come command on the first try, and usually race to see who can get their first (which is usually Gus... he's like a bullet).
I have attached some pictures, I hope you enjoy.... thanks again for bringing our little sweetheart into our lives. I don't how we lived without him!
Gus at his best http://www.unleasheddogs.net/

Bubbles
Adopted December 02 2007
For a few months I was looking on the BTCC site periodically to see if there were any dogs up for adoption in my area. My thoughts at the time were “I will look and maybe in a year or so I will get another Boston for our family” (we already had a 2.5 yr old female Boston, Ophelia). Most times there weren’t any Bostons in my area, but the last time I looked, I came across the biggest head, the most stunning blue eye paired with the darkest brown eye, the most perfect big bat ears and more personality in a face then I could truly fathom and her name was Bubbles (aka Bubs, Bubbies, Bubalicious, etc). I was beyond ecstatic when I saw she was being fostered in Calgary as we live in Central Alberta. I read her profile and knew I had to put in an application for adoption. I could have never imagined the journey it would be.
I tried so hard not to get my hopes up and I decided not to tell my daughter anything at that point. I met with Debbie and Bob (the foster parents) and Bubbles on a Saturday afternoon and I just fell in love with her (and Debbie and Bob too!!!). I had Ophelia with me and Bubs and Ophelia hit it off right away as well. It was so exciting. I knew that Bubs was going to be the 4th member of our all girl family!
The first week that Bubbies was home, she showed us that she could be a bit of a stinker at times. She was very possessive with her toys, snored louder than the train that runs past our house 3 times a day and Ophelia was a bit intimidated by her. Bubs also has a skin condition that requires frequent medication and the bottoms of her feet are very sensitive to cold. We have worked hard and learned alternative ways to exercise (other than walks), we are working with her on sharing and playing nice, and have established a routine. Things are much smoother now (except the snoring…guess we have to invest in some good earplugs)!
When we look into our little Bubbies eyes, we see that she loves us as much as we love her. She is truly happy and comfortable in our home and she has become a part of our family in such a short time.
I am so grateful to BTCC and to Debbie and Bob for the love that they gave Bubs until we could take over! I hope to stay in contact with all of you and give updates as our family grows over time!
Love,
Janel, Brianna, Ophelia and Bubbles

Newman
Adopted December ?? 2007
...Newman is doing great. Only one marking incident since he arrived at our house.
He doesn't even wear the belly band anymore.
He gets along with our other rescue, a Schnauzer, named Cobe, from LOYAL rescue really well.
The two are pretty funny. Newman gives Cobe a bath by licking him til he's a wet mess every night,
whether Cobe needs the bath or not!L ast night Cobe took the kong and Newman chased him all around the
house for about 10 minutes trying to steal it from him. After all that running, they needed a bit of a nap!
They also crawl into bed with Kyle and I when Kyle gets home from work in the am until I leave for work about 2 hrs later.
Newman has to crawl down under the covers and Cobe has to lay between Kyle and I with his head on my pillow.
It's quite a sight.
Thanks for everything you do to find good homes for all those wonderful dogs.
Newman has been a perfect addition to our family and we look forward to many happy years with our two dogs!
Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
