Foster Update: Beatrice

Everything about pretty, red and white Beatrice can be summed up in a single word: delightful. Once an underfed and untrained puppy mill pup, B, as she’s affectionately known, has, in the past three months, filled out and flourished. Despite the many challenges she confronted coming into a new and unfamiliar world, she’s mastered the art of walking on leash and is now completely house and crate trained. More importantly, though, she’s mastered the art and the joy of living. Of being free, of having regular meals and a big, comfortable bed (her fosters’, of course) to curl up on when she wants to be cuddled. She’s even grown into the female equivalent of the Boston gentleman because she likes being dressed, and in her foster mom’s words, “looks very fetching in her fleece hoodies.”

She’s wonderful with her 13-year-old foster brother – a cat – and he’s just as wonderful with her.

Brimming with affection, which she’s always eager to show, Beatrice thrives on snuggle time and dances excitedly when her foster mom returns home, whether it’s after three hours or three minutes. After suffering from periodic bouts of diarrhea, B is currently on a raw diet and doing well. She appears to be something of an introvert, content with having one or two people to love, without needing to expand that circle. Still fearful of strangers, she’s being slowly desensitized with the help of some canine friends and their human companions. “While she may never be a party animal,” smiles her foster mom, “our hope is that B can soon share her cute personality and contagious excitement with others.”
