We are pleased to announce that not only has Jack found his forever family – that family includes his BTRC foster sibling Moxie. Adopted together, it has made the transition to their new home even smoother. Congratulations to all!

Adoptable Jack!

Another Jack, Captain Jack Sparrow, once said “Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate”. We agree. Some treasure is black and white!

This treasure came to rescue due to circumstances beyond his owner’s control. Much loved, the decision to surrender him was heartbreaking, and we can see why – Jack has quickly shown that he is a clever, cuddly and charming boy who would be a welcome addition to many homes.

An active and energetic sort, Jack loves a good game of fetch (and is excellent at it!), chasing squirrels and playing with his foster sister. Jack also loves to go for walks but considers it his duty to be on alert while out and about, so tends to get overexcited. Look at that bird! That squirrel! Oh, there’s a person with a dog! Hello you guys! While we know it’s Jack’s inquisitive nature that gets him ramped up, he is a very strong dog who will pull hard to make his way to whatever has grabbed his attention. So while his leash walks have improved while in foster care, they are still a work in progress. Due to his smarts we know with a continued focus on leash training Jack has the potential to become an excellent walk companion. 

Jack is also a great car traveller. Upcoming road trip? Jack’s bags are packed and he’s ready to go! On trips to his foster family’s cottage, Jack settles nicely in the car and into cottage life. While he enjoys a bask in the sun, adventurous Jack even went for a dip in the lake, despite the cold temperatures! Jack seems quite comfortable around adults, and his happy nature makes him a great companion. He has also been comfortable around other dogs he has met while in foster care, and lets them take their time to get to know him. 

Jack does have one bite incident in his past which occurred when he was startled from his sleep by a stranger reaching out towards him. No other instances were reported before or since, so there is a chance this was a one-off for Jack, but it must be noted by any potential adopter. Since being in foster care, we have not seen any indication of this type of behaviour; in fact, his foster family gives rave reviews on how sweet he is. However, because of this, and given that Jack has not been exposed to children since under the care of BTRC, we feel a more mellow, adult-only home, or a home with older, dog-savvy kids, is best to avoid any surprises – and to give Jack much-wanted love, attention and affection!

While Jack has shown some signs of separation anxiety, it does not appear to be significant or impactful to Jack’s general demeanor. Like a lot of dogs, Jack doesn’t like loud noises, like drills or firecrackers. He also isn’t a fan of men with sunglasses or hats – we’re not sure why, but who are we to judge Jack’s fashion choices?

Like many Bostons, Jack is all about balance: play hard, sleep hard! After some great playtime, Jack will happily snuggle up with his foster family, and gladly welcomes belly rubs at any time of day. Jack is crated in the evening and has adapted extremely well; he is a great sleeper who doesn’t stir until his foster family is awake. This makes Jack well-suited to a variety of lifestyles where sleeping in is encouraged! When it comes to his eating habits, Jack does prefer to graze throughout the day, but is transitioning to regular, routine feeding times. 

Jack is fully housetrained, microchipped, and has received all necessary vetting. On top of a clean bill of health, Jack was also complimented by his vet team for being such a very good boy! He now considers everyone at the clinic a close personal friend and has been invited back to visit anytime as he charmed them all with his friendly and playful personality.

In his time with BTRC he has proven to be an adaptable, loving and entertaining dog who has stolen his foster family’s hearts, and it will be a lucky family who becomes Jack’s forever home.
