ADOPTED: Marjorie

Adopted March 15, 2015

This adorable girl was born late November of last year, the result of an accidental breeding between a single breed Boston Terrier mother and a Yorkshire Terrier/Maltese sire. That makes Marjorie a “terrier squared” – and she exhibits no shortage of terrier characteristics! Add to that the bully’s sometimes single-mindedness –– mix in a whole big dose of cute and clownish –– and the result is this black and white bundle of love.

Marjorie is feisty and fearless, mischievous and energetic. She is extremely intelligent and highly trainable, responding to both food and toy rewards. She is fast (having already perfected the Boston 500!) and with springs in her feet, would likely excel at any dog sport she and her human want to enjoy together!

Swift on her paws, with a typical puppy yip, occasional nip, and a snatch and sprint attitude towards the other dogs’ toys in her foster home, she’s quickly learning that these aren’t acceptable behaviours in a proper Boston lady. Marjorie has a bark and isn’t reluctant to use it to communicate what she wants. Not yet old enough to “hold it” overnight, she is sleeping in a gated area with an open-door crate and pee pads and is, for the most part, quiet when in her enclosure. The bitter cold and snow have hampered her housetraining, so that will be an ongoing process.

She loves the dogs in her foster home, but if there’s a toy being played with, or a treat being eaten, Marjorie “needs” it –– so she will require a tolerant canine playmate while she learns big-girl manners. She has not lived with cats but could likely learn to live with a dog-friendly feline.

As with all growing, exploring, inquisitive pups, little miss Marjorie requires a firm foundation upon which to build and hone her future doggy skills. To assure the success of that future, she needs a special someone with a loving sense of humour, who’s willing and eager to invest the time and patience needed to train the mind and exercise the body of this bright and active 3-month-old.

The importance of obedience classes, with positive reinforcement training methods, can’t be stressed enough. It will not only help form a lasting bond between Marjorie and her new human, but will exercise both her body and her mind, and help her to grow into a well-mannered and balanced four-legged best friend.

Boston Terrier lovers will recognize her love of wrapping herself up completely in blankets, or snuggling as close to the fireplace or heat vent as she can get. Her head-tilt when you speak to her is utterly charming and will melt your heart. Her desire is to be with her “people” all the time; whatever is happening, Marjorie wants to be in the centre of it.

Finally, at the end of a busy puppy day, Marjorie loves nothing more than to cuddle as close to her person as she can, feeling safe and loved and dreaming of all the adventures and fun-times they will share in their life together.
