Boston Terrier Rescue Canada’s 5K Run for Rescues 2020

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada’s 5K Run for Rescues 2020 –
rescue dogs cross the finish line first!

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada’s 5K Run for Rescues took place on the weekend of June 27-28, 2020.

Still dealing with the cancellation of annual summer festivals and fundraisers due to the pandemic, BTRC created the 5K event as a way for our Boston Terrier community to come together, while apart, to support the medical, training and other expenses of Boston Terriers and Boston Terrier mixes in our program.

Unlike traditional 5K Races, our virtual race was less about rules and more about motivating participants to get active, set goals, and challenge themselves, all while making a positive impact on rescued dogs by collecting pledges. Those taking part could choose their starting line, whether it was indoors on a treadmill or outside in their neighbourhood, with their dog or without. They could run, jog, walk or wheel, at their own pace.

We are thrilled to announce the total raised was $5646!

Our top fundraiser was Krystal Kmiecik, winner of a Buddyrider™ Bicycle Pet Seat generously donated by Buddyrider Canada.

Other prize winners were Leah Grillo, who won a $50 Amazon Gift Card donated by Helen Mann, Realtor, Sutton Group Incentive Realty Inc. Brokerage, and Amy Somers, who won a $50 Gift Certificate from Iron Will Raw Pet Food.

Everyone who took part, whether by entering, sponsoring, or sharing the event, was a winner in Rescue’s books –– although the first place finishers were most definitely the Boston Terriers in need, who will benefit from the generosity of all involved.

Since this inaugural event was such a success, we are considering making it an annual run. Even when Covid-19 restrictions end, this virtual format allows Boston Terrier lovers to join together in a united cause, right across Canada.
