SET FOR LIFE: Bodhi

Today, on Remember Me Thursday, we light a candle for one of our own.
Bodhi came to Boston Terrier Rescue Canada this past spring, and left us on the first day of fall. In between, Bodhi enjoyed a wonderful summer. 🌞 Because Bodhi was part of BTRC’s Set for Life program, he was in a permanent foster home. To Bodhi, however, it was just “home”.
Picked up from the shelter where he was abandoned, it was heartwarming to watch the brightness come back into Bodhi’s eyes. This was all due to the love and amazing level of care he received from his foster mom. Bodhi was provided with everything he could need and more – delicious meals, tempting treats, comfy spots to rest, soothing massages and leisurely walks exploring the neighbourhood. She even created a backyard oasis for Bodhi on her balcony, complete with faux leaf privacy screen, grass and greenery. 🌿
A sensitive soul, and a bit of an introvert, Bodhi did enjoy the company of people, as long as he had the option of a soft bed where he could go off and recharge. He made several good human friends who are also mourning his passing.
It is never an easy decision to say goodbye. But Bodhi’s health was declining quickly, and it was time to let him go. His mom was with him until his final breath, and he passed peacefully. She says, “My heart breaks because my heart loved.” 💔
We are so grateful that Bodhi knew security and love in his last months. Run free and healthy at the Rainbow Bridge dear sweet boy. ♥️🌈🐾

Bodhi is now “Set for Life

Bodhi, the senior boy rescued from a shelter, had his specialist appointment and sadly the report is not a good one. An ultrasound revealed several nodules, or growths, in and around his intestine, liver and colon. Nodules were also found on his adrenal glands. The sheer number of growths strongly points to malignancy.

While there are some options available to give us more specific information, such as a CT scan surgery and biopsy, all would be costly and invasive procedures. Given his age, there is no guarantee he would survive them. In discussion with his vet, the decision was made to provide Bodhi with all possible supportive and palliative care, and to monitor closely his quality of life.

Right now, he’s doing pretty well all things considered! His incredibly loving and patient foster mom has made some clever accommodations that have greatly improved his mobility and safety. Bodhi is sporting some sweet new “grip” socks to provide traction on indoor surfaces, the glass doors to the patio have been clearly marked with tape because of his impaired vision, and she’s even devised a safety zone around the bed so he can join her for cuddles and movie watching without fear of falling! Not to mention, he’s also enjoying home-cooked meals and may even have gained a little weight.

Bodhi also loves their outside adventures! She reports that he is a different dog when he’s outdoors, full of life and renewed energy as he explores nature.

Bodhi won’t ever be up for adoption. But we are happy to announce, as a member of BTRC’s Set for Life family, he is already forever home.

Meet Bodhi

This past Saturday BTRC received an urgent call about a senior Boston Terrier at high risk of euthanasia in a shelter. On Sunday, Bodhi joined the BTRC family.

Bodhi is 12 years old, and in addition to common signs of aging such as some vision and hearing loss, he is very thin and his coat condition is poor. He also has a large growth on the side of his mouth. Bodhi has already been to see the vet and we are waiting for test results so we can make a plan for him.

At this point we don’t know if he is suffering from something we can treat, but we have made a promise to Bodhi that no matter what, he will be safe, comfortable and loved for the remainder of his life.

We will update you as we learn more.

NOTE: Bodhi is being fostered in QC. He is on a medical hold and we are unable to answer specific questions or accept adoption applications at this time.
