Charlie’s Letter to Santa Paws (and a very special reply!)

Dear Santa Paws,

I hope this letter gets to you and you find me at my current spot. I’ve been in BTRC foster care for a couple months now. I think you have me on the naughty list, but Santa I can explain… that picture of me and foster sister Zoey (aka co-worker Zoey from accounting), well it’s just not what it looks like. Honest!

You see, when I first got here I wasn’t feeling my best, my tummy was always upset, and I didn’t know how to let others know I was hurting. Then it took some time for me to get used to my new surroundings and to settle in.

My foster family has helped me change my ‘naughty ways’, honest Santa! Now I always hear “good girl, Charlie!” as we go on walks. Zoey and I play so much we just drop wherever we are – we are like sisters from different misters. (That’s the story behind the picture, truth!!)

So, Santa Paws, can you please put me back on the good list? I wish for peace on earth. And a bottomless treat jar!

Thanks,

Charlie (aka Charlie 2 or Wiggle Bum)

Dear Charlie,

You have indeed been a very good girl! I am particularly proud of how you have become so close to Zoey as I know that you have been very selective with your dog friends in the past. I have elves at the vet offices too, you know, and they tell me that your tummy issues will need ongoing care – so a bottomless treat jar might not be the wisest gift for you this year.

Instead, Mrs. Claus and I believe that the perfect thing for every dog is a loving family. So Charlie, take a look around you and you will see your present – you are now forever home! ❤️

Merry Christmas Charlie!

Santa 🎅🏽

CharlieChecking in with Charlie

Aside from the fact that she hopes a certain photocopy made at the office Christmas party doesn’t make it to social media, Charlie is doing well.

Charlie went into heat in the fall, so her spay surgery had to be delayed until earlier this month. She came through her surgery like a champ! We did discover that she has a mild case of entropion (her eyelids roll inward). No treatment is needed at this time, but this must be monitored going forward.

One lingering issue has been her digestive sensitivity. Charlie has been doing much better on a veterinary diet but will stay in foster care a bit longer until we can be sure that her gastro issues have been successfully addressed.

In the meantime, her foster mom reports that Charlie loves all things cuddly. There is no such thing as too many blankets to fully bury herself under and tuck herself in. But her favourite spot is to be nuzzled right into a lap whenever possible, especially with that yucky cold white stuff outside. Charlie can never have enough stuffies either, and routinely empties out the entire toy bin to pull out her favourites. As for putting her toys away, well, she’s happy to report that training foster mom to do that has been a complete success! 😉

Checking in with Charlie 2

You know how it goes with best laid plans. We were scheduling an appointment for Charlie to be spayed when she went into heat. Not a fan of her ‘lady pants’, her foster mom tells us she’s become quite the Houdini in getting out of them!

Even with her active hormones, she is settling well and her true personality is beginning to shine through. She and her foster sibling are interacting more – playing chase around the house on rainy days, and in the backyard when the weather is good. And she’s always up for some cuddles.

We’ll keep you up-to-date on Charlie’s progress. Remember, BTRC does not maintain a waiting list, so we won’t be accepting applications yet for this seven-year-old sweetheart. Charlie is being fostered in Ontario.

Introducing Charlie 2!

As we teased you earlier today, there’s a new Charlie in town! This Charlie is a pretty seven-year-old girlie.

Charlie was initially, and temporarily, rehomed with a family member. As her first home is no longer able to take her back, and she is not the happiest sharing her space with a toddler, it was decided the best thing for Charlie would be to find her a family that better matched her needs. And we are happy to help.

We’re sure we’ll have lots more to share as we get to know her better. She will need some routine vetting, to be spayed, and to brush up on her basic training before we can begin the search for a forever home.

Welcome to BTRC Charlie!

NOTE: Charlie is being fostered in London, ON. We are still assessing her, so she is not yet ready to be considered for adoption. BTRC DOES NOT MAINTAIN A WAITING LIST, SO NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT THIS TIME.
