Jack

In Memory of Jack

BTRC mourns the loss of alum Jack (originally named Beans). Jack was adopted at the age of 8 months, and spent the next decade being loved and cherished by his amazing family.

His mom has written a heartfelt tribute to Jack, and it’s so beautiful we’d like to share it with you.

On April 22, 2023, we said goodbye to Jack, the light of our lives and best pup ever.

I fell in love the moment I saw his little face and giant ears on Petfinder. The next day, we submitted an application and shortly after, we drove to London, ON to meet him. I instantly knew that he was the most special boy.

We picked him up the next weekend. Formerly known as Beans, we renamed him Jack. He was eight months old and for the next decade, he brought so much joy and love to our lives. He had the most amazing personality. He thought every parcel contained gifts for him. He loved watching TV. He rolled in the cool grass on a warm summer day. He could hear the word “cookie” at barely a whisper and practically fly down the stairs.

His health issues started in the summer of 2020 but there was only so much we could do. He was stable until this past winter and then started to deteriorate. Saying goodbye was the hardest thing ever. It’s taken me this long to post anything because it would make it even more real. I’m still processing his loss and I don’t think the ache will ever go away. There have been so many tears. That little guy took a huge piece of my heart with him.

I’m trying to focus on the good times, taking comfort in knowing that he had a good life. We went on many adventures, but those simple moments of cuddling up on the couch are what I miss the most. I can’t see bacon, peanut butter or soft serve without thinking of him. I swear that some nights when I’m in bed, I can feel him stuck to me like glue.

Things are particularly raw this week because it would’ve been his 11th puppaversary — aka his gotcha day.

Jack was so loved by us and by everyone who met him. That little face lit up a room like nothing else. There will never be another pup like him.

To all of our friends and family who were there for us, we can’t thank you enough. A special thanks to Dr. Tiffany Mason and the team @yscvethospital for taking such good care of our boy and to @bostonterrierrescueca for bringing Jack into our lives.

And to my baby Jackie … I will love you forever. Thank you for letting me be your mama.
