ADOPTION READY!

Handsome Jorge is an interesting fellow. At four years of age, he is dedicated to his favourite things in life – sleeping, long country walks, sleeping, sniffing grass, sleeping, an occasional pounce on a toy, and cuddles with his human. Oh, and squirrels.

Okay, to be honest, Jorge can be a bit lazy. How about a game of fetch Jorge? “Yawn……” (But he swears if he could, he would chase all the squirrels, and that would take lots of energy, right?).

Jorge is a talker, too. Very vocal, he verbalizes at play, when running, when excited – and it’s his excitement talking that needs to be listened to. You see, Jorge has some fear-based reactions and when he gets too wound up, his exuberance can lead to him making some poor behavioural choices.

Not that he doesn’t know how to be a good boy. Quite the contrary! He can quiet on command, go to bed on command. He can overcome his excitement within seconds. Calm encourages calm for our Jorge.

He is quick to listen, but he needs the right person to guide him. He can react fearfully to strangers, especially coming into his home, so it is imperative that his new owner understands an overly-excited or startled Jorge can be reactive in this type of situation. Because of this (and despite the fact his previous owner reported he was friendly with children), Jorge will only be adopted to an adult-only home. His foster caregiver has been working with him steadily and rescue will share tips and tools to help Jorge be happy and successful in his new home.

Other dogs? Really, Jorge can take ’em or leave ’em. If a dog is too excited, again, he may react. So dog parks probably aren’t the best choice as there are often very enthusiastic attendees present. But for the most part, Jorge is pretty much indifferent and will likely be fine with another calm canine companion. Cats are an unknown.

There is so much good in this boy. He just needs the right environment in which to shine. Crate-trained and housebroken, check. Good on leash, check. Cute and cuddly, check and check.

Strolls and siestas, tranquility and treats… if you think you are the right match for Jorge, please visit our website to fill out an application.

JORGE • 4 YEARS  • FULLY VETTED & NEUTERED •  ADULT HOME REQUIRED

Update October 4, 2020

Foster Update!

What’s happening with our boy Jorge? Here’s what FM tells us:

Jorge is still his cuddly, laid-back self who enjoys going for trail walks, chasing squirrels (if off leash) and taking a lot of siestas. He’s not too fussy about socializing with other dogs or chasing the ball.  When playing around, getting out of his crate or when his foster hooman comes home, he gets really really excited and vocal and loves to jump up and scream for joy!

He isn’t a fan of loud noises and will bark to let you know. Jorge easily settles especially when his foster hooman is calm.  His barking is also reducing as he knows that quieting down results in tasty treats for Jorge!!

Jorge would do well in a calm and quiet home, preferably rural, where interactions are controlled and siestas are plenty. He’s overall quick to listen but will still need help making the right choices.

NOTE: Jorge is not up for adoption yet but will be soon! As soon as he’s ready, we will open up the applications and let everyone know on social media.

Everybody please welcome another new foster boy, Jorge!

What we can tell you about Jorge so far is he’s a handsome 3 year old, 22lbs little devil. Actually we think he’s more angel than devil. We’re told he’s quite sweet, knows some basic obedience, gets along with other dogs and children, loves car rides… but in terms of his little devil side, we’re also told he doesn’t much care for strangers, particularly ones entering his home. This is something Jorge’s foster home is going to keep an eye on and if necessary we’ll work on teaching him some manners and let him know that guests are friends and not intruders!  We’ll keep you all posted on his progress.

Jorge is located in the Ottawa area.

A great way you can help us help our foster dogs and get them ready for their furever homes is by making a donation or becoming a monthly donor. We appreciate your support!

JORGE IS IN FOSTER CARE AND IS NOT UP FOR ADOPTION YET. Check our facebook page for updates on this lil dude.
