Adoptable Lily!

Lily is an adorable young Boston Terrier/pug mix. It was clear when Lily arrived that most of the bigger world was brand new to her. She can still be a bit shy when meeting strangers, but it doesn’t take her long to let her guard down and trade some appreciative licks for attention and pats.

Lily loves her people and wants to be where they are. Her favourite evening activity is curling up for couch cuddles with blankets and her foster mom. Just to make things extra cozy, she’ll often steal articles of clothing from the laundry to bring to the couch for cuddle time!

Lily is moderately active. She thrives on routine, loves her daily walks and is very good on leash. She quickly learned that walks come after meals, so after eating Lily can usually be found waiting at the door, bum wiggling and tail wagging when she sees her leash. She’s interested in dogs she passes, but not inappropriately so, and doesn’t seem phased by squirrels, birds or bunnies. Although not tested with a cat, for this reason we think Lily could live happily with a dog-savvy cat.

She’s the only pooch in her foster home but has been good with other dogs she has met. She seems to speak ‘dog’ quite well and takes her cues from her canine playmates. Also, games of chase are FUN!

Lily enjoys running laps in the backyard and will often run with something in her mouth, but games of fetch typically don’t last too long. She even enjoys playing in the snow if the temperature is not too cold. She’s not toy crazy but does enjoy things that squeak, appropriate chew toys, and on occasion inappropriate chew ‘toys’ (she’s still young after all).

Lily has worked hard with her foster mom and is now fully housetrained and crate trained. Lily knows ‘come’, ‘sit’ and understands ‘stay’ – but sometimes she’s just too excited to stay for too long! Lily needs a home that will continue to work on positive-reinforcement training as she’s a bright girl, eager to please, and each new behaviour and trick learned is a fun accomplishment for Lily – and her new person!

Although Lily wants to be by your side, at this point she really isn’t interested in being your co-pilot. She has difficulty relaxing in the car, even when secured in a travel crate. Short, frequent car trips could help her overcome her nervousness in time.

Lily’s spay and cherry eye repair surgery were delayed because she came into heat, but have now been completed along with all routine vetting and vaccinations. It is important to note that a small number of dogs experience a re-prolapse of the third eyelid gland and should this be the case with Lily, she may require additional surgery in future.

The perfect mix of cuddly and playful, Lily is a fun, sweet, affectionate, intelligent side kick and is looking for someone to be as devoted to her as she will be to them.

Lily’s Letter to Santa Paws

Dear Santa Paws,

My name is Lily and I am 8 months old. My foster mom has been telling me all about my first Christmas and I am very excited!! I have had a lot of FIRSTS in my foster home. First walks, first toys, first treats and I now go outside when I have to go to the bathroom!

I have been a very good girl in my foster home. When I arrived, I was scared but my foster mom was calm and patient with me. I am learning new things every day. I enjoy fetching and running around the backyard with toys in my mouth. So much FUN! And I really like to spend time cuddling on the couch too – blankets are my favourite.

For Christmas I would love a new stuffed animal to cuddle with, a new chew toy and maybe some of those chicken and sweet potato treats? And please don’t forget to visit my sister Daisy too. Thanks Santa!

Love,
Lily

Welcome Lily!

Lily came into rescue with her littermate, Daisy.  They were brought home together and were doing well as members of their new family, but life has a way of throwing curveballs. An unexpected change in circumstances meant that both needed new homes, and knowing BTRC would have their best interests at heart, they were transferred to rescue’s care.

At a little over six months of age, these sweet Boston Terrier/pug mixes need all routine vetting, to be spayed, and each requires surgery to repair a cherry eye. Typical puppies, they are also learning basic obedience, potty and crate training.

Lily is being fostered in the Waterloo region, Daisy in Durham region. They are not yet ready to be considered for adoption.
