Is Mojo your man?

This handsome boy came to BTRC because he was not getting along with his family’s senior dog. Placed in a foster home with no other dogs, he was initially timid, but his friendly, playful and loving personality quickly emerged!

Mojo is a sensitive fellow. When he meets strangers, he can be shy and needs the time and space to approach them on his own terms. But once he gets to know you, he is very affectionate. When Mojo arrived, he followed his foster mom around like a shadow, fearful of loud noises and quick movements. He has since gained more confidence and can now often be found lounging on his own. While he is becoming braver, Mojo still prefers a quiet, relaxed environment, so an adult-only home would likely suit him best.

Mojo loves to go on outings. Whether it’s a car ride, hike or short walk, Mojo is ready to explore the outside world. He can’t wait to wear his coat – even the snow does not deter him! His nature walks are on a long leash, and he loves feeling “free.” He has learned not to pull as much, but his enthusiastic sniffing abilities sometimes get the best of him. With gentle reminders, Mojo is quick to remember his manners.

Mojo is interested in the other dogs he encounters on walks, although his reaction varies. He’ll pass some dogs with no interest, greet a few with a sniff, and bark and growl at others. Mojo’s attention can quickly be redirected with his foster mom’s verbal cues. With proper and careful introductions, Mojo’s behaviour around other dogs has improved, but there doesn’t seem to be a pattern in the type of dogs he likes or dislikes. Mojo would prefer to be your one and only pooch but is currently living with two cats and is very respectful of them and their space.

Mojo is a mix of calm and energetic and intuitively knows when to be one or the other. His little tail is often wagging, and one of his favourite things is greeting his foster mom when she arrives home. He is an A+ door greeter! Cuddling and sleeping next to his human is something Mojo looks forward to whenever he gets the chance.

Mojo is not fond of his crate and has been free to sleep wherever he chooses in his foster home (usually on the living room couch). When left alone, he is not destructive and calmly snoozes as he awaits your return. A fully fenced, secure yard would be best for Mojo, as he is still nervous about new noises and movements and may bolt if frightened.

Mojo is house trained, microchipped and has received all necessary vetting. His foster mom describes him as a “sweet dog with the cutest personality” and adds, “Anyone who has Mojo in their life is extremely lucky!” If you are looking for a loyal companion whose mission is to love you unconditionally, Mojo is your man. Mojo is feelin’ good!

BTRC foster Mojo was recently neutered, and though he was a bit out of it upon his return home, he was back to his normal perky self the next morning. His appetite quickly returned as well. In fact, when his foster mom mentioned the word “donut,” he was pretty excited about such a delicious treat, but to his dismay, it was nothing more than an annoying neck accessory. 😂

A fecal test leading up to Mojo’s neuter showed a low presence of giardia for which he has been treated, and a follow-up fecal test will be done to confirm that he’s negative for the parasite. Pre-op blood work also showed that the ratio between two blood electrolytes, sodium and potassium, was a bit low. Mojo did have a bout of diarrhea when he first arrived, so that may have been the reason, but this could also be an indicator of Addison’s disease. Although he showed no other symptoms, just to be safe, Mojo’s cortisol levels were tested and found to be normal, so all is well!

Mojo continues to be a happy and polite dog who enjoys car rides and walks and greets his foster mom enthusiastically when she returns home. He is respectful of his two feline foster siblings, who are slowly warming up to him.

With that face, it’s hard to imagine that anyone could stay away from Mojo for too long. 😻

Hello Hoomans!

Okay, so get this – I spent hours crafting the pawfect Valentine’s gift for BTRC foster Thelma, my crush. Do you have any idea how tough it is to use human scissors with paws? Let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. Dewclaws are NOT thumbs.

And what do I get in return? Thelma drooled on my heartfelt paper gift and it got all soggy. Apparently, her foster mom doesn’t allow her to munch on paper, and took it out of her mouth, so my artistry went to waste. But that’s not the worst part – Thelma had a V-Day stuffy from ANOTHER DOG! Can you believe it?

I mean, I kinda’ get it. BTRC alum Doogle, the dog who gave her that toy, is a total catch. He’s older and treats her like a queen, and that makes Thelma’s little nub wag like crazy. She told me they met while her foster mom was on vacation. She stayed with Doogle’s family, and the spark was there right from the first sniff.

But still, it stings a little. Anyway, I’ve decided to move on. Maybe I’ll slide into Rebel’s DMs. He’s cute and they tell me blondes have more fun. I’m always up for more fun!

Welcome Mojo!

Mojo was surrendered because he was not getting along with a senior dog in his home. Mojo’s family felt that BTRC was better suited to evaluate Mojo, identify possible reasons for his behaviour, and with rescue’s experience and the guidance of a professional trainer if needed, help Mojo become the best companion he can be.

Mojo was understandably nervous when he arrived in his foster home, but his friendly and loving personality quickly emerged. At two years old, Mojo is playful and energetic. His foster mom describes him as “sweet and affectionate” with “a big heart.” He loves to go for walks and car rides and will wiggle his bum and tail when he knows it’s time to go! He has been a very polite and quiet houseguest and respectful of his two feline foster siblings.

Mojo will need to be neutered and has some vet appointments coming up. For now, he is looking forward to more walks, playtime, and snuggles as he settles in.
