Shyla (now Chonk) was adopted February 8, 2023

Adoptable Shyla

Shyla joined BTRC in December and is now ready to find her forever home.

Shyla is an adorable 4-year-old female Boston Terrier/French Bulldog mix. When she joined BTRC she was not spayed and had cherry eyes in need of repair. She recently had both surgical procedures, and all other routine vetting is up to date.

Shy, sensitive, and sweet, Shyla is happiest hanging out with her people. Very good in the car, Shyla is happy to join you on your travels, but is also more than content to cuddle in beside you at home to ‘dogflix’ and chill. (She particularly enjoys squirrel videos on YouTube!)

Shyla is moderately active and happy with short daily walks, just enough to investigate the neighbourhood, as long as she also gets in some good play time for exercise at home. Perhaps because she is a bit bashful, she does not like to do her business while on leash, so the ideal home for Shyla would be one with a fenced backyard.

Shyla interacts well with just about everyone she meets, but given her demure disposition, she would do best in a calm adult-only household or one with older, gentle children.

Shyla does get a bit jealous when other pets are around, but this is something she has been working on. She’d love to be the centre of attention as your one and only, but would likely be okay with a similarly sized, laid back dog-sibling. While she has not lived with a cat, she shows little interest in cats she comes across, so may do fine with a dog-savvy feline. Shyla is crate trained and comfortable being left alone for reasonable lengths of time.

SHYLA • SPAYED FEMALE • 21 LBS • FOSTERED IN CALGARY, AB

Note: From the time applications are opened, through the selection and screening process, adoptions can take approximately three weeks to finalize. We thank everyone who takes the time to apply, but only those who best fit each dog’s requirements in a forever home will be contacted.

Shyla is aptly named. This sweet girl is quite timid, although she has warmed up quickly to her foster dad and is getting more playful each day. She may be a mix of Frenchie and Boston, but her destuff and destroy the toy gene is strong!

Shyla is not a fan of the cold, so housetraining is a work in progress. Hopefully her new warm coat and fancy footwear, a gift from foster dad, will help with the process of teaching her to do her business outside.

Her vet visit revealed a slight heart murmur, but nothing that requires treatment, or so serious that she can’t be spayed or have her cherry eye repaired. Shyla will need surgery on both eyes  – both third eyelid glands are prolapsed although only one is easily visible. Her teeth look good, with only mild plaque build-up, but as sometimes things are hiding under the gumline the plan is to have dental x-rays done while she is already under anesthesia for her spay and eye repair.

Shyla, who is being fostered in Alberta, has been quite popular with our social media followers, but won’t be available for adoption until all her veterinary care is completed.

Welcome Shyla!

Our newest arrival is an adorable 4-year-old Boston Terrier/French bulldog mix. Shyla came to us after her retirement from raising puppies.

Before she can move on to the next phase of her life, her foster home will take some time to get to know her better so we can make the best match in a forever home. She will have a thorough vet examination, and at minimum needs to be spayed and have her cherry eye repaired.
