ADOPTED: Bolin

Bolin was adopted on Nov 1, 2021

We are pleased to announce that Bolin, the little mix who required IVDD surgery this past summer, has been adopted by his foster family! He really settled in during his long post-op recovery, and when it came time to find a forever home, his family realized they simply couldn’t part with him. They share:

“My family is so happy to have this sweet garbanzo boy into our home. Bugsy was not expected to stay but that seems to be how the Dog Gods plan things. He is a character – not perfect – has a bark like a stiletto heel in your ear – but a gentle hearted soul. Amazing guard dog (that bark!) and Olive, also a BTRC alum, loves him.

We think he looks a like a gangster with his underbite and ears pitched too far forward on his head, and his big BIG swagger butt. He is adorable, crazy, loyal and now ours – Bugsy Balone!”

Wishing you and your family many happy adventures Bugsy ‘Bolin’ Balone! You are certainly one very lucky doggo! ❤️

50-60% – Bolin’s chance of recovery even with surgery due to severity of his spinal injury. 100% – the support you have shown for this deserving, loving dog!

Bolin’s emergency IVDD surgery took place on July 16. His recovery has been better and faster than even his specialists expected. In fact, his doctors said his progress is quite unusual and “pretty spectacular”!

We think it’s Bolin’s way of showing how much he appreciates your generosity and kindness. You gave him this chance – and he’s making the most of it.

He’s walking on all four legs, so physio and gentle exercise will help with his remaining muscle weakness. His sutures have been removed, so water activities will also be great for regaining his strength.

While the enforced crate rest hasn’t been his favourite part, Bolin has been a sweet and considerate house guest at his foster home. His foster mom says Bolin has a “lovely energy”, and his BTRC alum foster sibling has been overseeing his recouperation, staying by his crate and flirting through the bars. He’s been respectful of the resident felines, although the squirrels he watches through the window do bring out the Beagle in him!

Speaking of Beagle, well, we want to know for sure. So, we’ve sent off a DNA test from our friends at DNA My Dog [link to their Facebook page] and we’ll be having a contest to guess the breeds that make up this special boy. Stay tuned!
