Bridey was adopted May 20, 2023.

Bridey is ready to steal your heart!

This lovely 21-pound, 9-year-old Boston came to BTRC when her previous family’s circumstances changed, and they could no longer care for her. Bridey has proven to be a clever, cuddly and charming lady who will make a welcome addition to her lucky adoptive home.

Bridey has very limited – if any – hearing. Special care must be taken so that she is never off-leash in any area where she cannot be safely contained as she can’t hear to be alerted to any possible dangers. Otherwise, there is little noticeable effect on her day-to-day life. Her foster family has found teaching her different hand signals for common dog commands is not only something she enjoys but is a great bonding experience! Very attuned to her people, her watchful eye allows her to respond well to these visual cues.

Although not your typical toy-crazy-toy-destroying BT, she is not opposed to a game of tug with her Boston foster sibling. Allowing her proper time to get acquainted, Bridey would do fine with another calm and gentle dog of similar or smaller size. She could also easily adjust to being the only dog in the home. She has not been fostered with a cat, but was basically disinterested during her one interaction with a friend’s feline, so we suspect she’d be fine with a dog-savvy cat.

Bridey does not like to be crated or confined but has been non-destructive when left loose when her foster family goes out. Of course, she would prefer someone home with her more often than not. Fully housetrained, Bridey does require regular bathroom breaks to avoid any accidents in the home.

Bridey is quite the snuggler, happy to curl up under a blanket for a snooze. But don’t let her love of a good nap trick you – Bridey is all about balance and would be most happy in an environment that allowed for several naps a day, interspersed with a few enjoyable walks and of course a treat or two in between. Not too many treats though – Bridey has worked hard to reach her new, svelte figure. 😉

A strong communicator, Bridey will gladly tell you what she wants with her grunts and noises. She doesn’t often bark though, so would be suited to condo or apartment living. Comfortable around adults and kids alike, Bridey’s happy nature makes her a great companion to people of all ages.

Bridey needed dental work, as many dogs of her age do, but with a good cleaning and several extractions, she has now received all necessary vet care and has a clean bill of health.

In her time with BTRC this adaptable, loving and gentle dog has stolen many hearts, and it will be a lucky person indeed who becomes Bridey’s forever BFF. Bridey is currently being fostered in the Halton Region of Ontario. If you think you have the right lifestyle and that your home that would be a good fit for Bridey, please complete the   Adoption Form.

From the time applications are opened, through the selection and screening process, adoptions can take approximately three weeks to finalize. We thank everyone who takes the time to apply, but only those who best fit each dog’s requirements in a forever home will be contacted for an interview.

Back from the dentist

Thanks to everyone who sent good wishes her way – Bridey’s dental surgery went very well! She lost 11 teeth in addition to the 11 teeth that were found to be already missing. So, looking on the bright side, that does leave half of her teeth remaining.

The first night Bridey was still feeling the effects of the anesthetic and finding it hard to get comfortable, but yesterday she was much more perky. She’s on antibiotics and pain meds, and although she must be hand-fed (she’s recovering, so spoiling her is okay for a day or two 😉) she is eating water-softened kibble.

In fact, Bridey’s feeling so much better she decided to trade her cone for a much more appropriate seasonal look. Happy Easter Weekend! 🐰

Bringing you up-to-date with Bridey!

Bridey has settled into her foster home. She is affectionate to everyone and has made fast friends with the young humans that live there. Bridey is also sharing her foster home with BTRC alum Desmond; she has a lovely laid-back energy and aside from a bit of bed stealing (she prefers to call it ‘sharing’) they are getting along very well. They enjoyed a field trip to the pet store for a new harness, and she and Desmond had fun picking out all the things they’d buy if they had their own money!

Bridey received a great report from the vet. Bloodwork was perfect, no parasites were found, heartworm and tick-borne diseases negative. She was vaccinated and microchipped. It doesn’t come as a surprise for a nine-year-old, but Bridey does have significant tartar and inflammation in her mouth, so she’s been booked for a COHAT (Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment). In other words, this is more than just a dental cleaning. It’s a thorough assessment of Bridey’s whole mouth with an oral exam, dental X-rays and a treatment plan for any problems found including extractions and cleaning.

Bridey does have very limited – if any – hearing. We’re reluctant to label her special needs though, because this doesn’t seem to hamper her in any noticeable way, other than that special care must be taken so that she is never off leash in any area where she is not safely contained. Bridey is very attuned to her people and keeps a watchful eye which enables her to react to visual commands.

Bridey is well-behaved, happy, playful and an excellent snuggler. Once her vetting is completed she’ll be on the search for her forever family – and what a lucky family they will be!

Welcome Bridey!

Bridey is one of two Bostons that came to rescue when sadly and unexpectedly their owner had to move into long-term care.

This lovely girl is nine years of age. She will receive a thorough veterinary check-up so we can tend to whatever other medical care she may require.

We look forward to getting to know Bridey better as she settles in.
