ADOPTABLE COCOTTE!

First, we’ve been remiss in keeping everyone up to date on this pretty girl. She’s been such a star in foster care, and you know it’s the squeaky wheel that tends to get the grease. 😉

Cocotte was surrendered to the shelter because she was not getting along with the other dog in the home. The shelter in turn transferred her to BTRC because of some medical issues. Of most concern, protein loss in her urine.

We are happy to report that these have all been addressed, and Coco is ready to find her new forever home!

LIKES:

• LOVES people. Every stranger is a new friend.
• Dog-savvy children. Although she has not been living with any children in foster care, she did come from a home with young kids, and seems to enjoy meeting respectful young people.
• Walks. She is well mannered on leash, with no pulling, and is easily redirected if something sparks too much interest.
• Cuddles. ‘Coco’ loves to snuggle her way under the blankets to cozy up with you on the couch.
• Baths. Well, particularly the towel cuddles that follow a bath.
• Toys. Especially her rubber ball. Squeakies and stuffies are great fun too – while they last!
• Cats?? Apparently, she lived successfully with a cat in her former home. We can’t guarantee this as there is no feline in her foster home, but Coco doesn’t exhibit much a prey drive when she spies squirrels or bunnies on her daily walks.
• French. While she has been working hard on becoming bilingual, her understanding of commands in French is still superior to her response to commands given in English.

DISLIKES:

• Other dogs on her turf. She has a history of being reactive and resource-guarding food and toys when sharing her home with another dog. For that reason, Coco needs to be the only dog in the home.
  Outside of the home, Coco is dog friend selective, but her reaction to seeing dogs on walks has been appropriate.

MUST KNOW:

• Cocotte is a sweet, low-key, and polite companion. She isn’t demanding of your constant attention and does not beg for food. That’s not to say you won’t see the Boston Terrier full body wiggle when she’s happy and excited!
• She is fully housetrained, asking at the door when she needs to go outside. She is now also crate-trained.
• Medically, she will need to remain on a prescription veterinary urinary diet for life. Since the switch to this food, Coco’s urine tests have all be clear, and this diet will prevent crystals and stones from forming (which may require surgery to remove). Otherwise, she is current on all vetting and healthy

Bonjour Cocotte!

Cocotte is a 7-year-old spayed female Boston Terrier who came to us from a shelter in Quebec. She was surrendered to the shelter as she could not get along with the other dog in her home. But it was medical concerns that prompted her transfer to BTRC. Testing done while in the shelter’s care showed the presence of excess protein in her urine (proteinuria). Cocotte will need further diagnostics to determine a cause and course of treatment.

Coco has made herself right at home in foster care, and we will keep you posted on what we learn from her upcoming vet appointment.
