Dovy was adopted May 4, 2023.

Voted most likely to make you laugh!

We described him as the class clown, and now this newly adopted boy is staying true to type – he looks like he is posing for his yearbook picture! 😂

Dovy, now known as Bernie, has been officially adopted and is now settling into his new home with his new BT sister, also a BTRC alum. Congratulations to all!

Adoptable Dovy!

If you love to laugh then this is the dog for you! Dovy is quite possibly the perfect mix of a goofy class clown personality and laid-back cuddle monster.

In his short time in foster care Dovy has continued to come out of his shell and reveal the different layers of his personality. This 6-year-old male is a true goofball at the core – he loves to play and in typical Boston fashion can de-squeak and de-stuff a toy in record time! Once he has them manicured to perfection he will continue to play with the shell and carry it around to show off his handy work. Dovy also loves to chew on his tough Kong toys or bones and will lie quietly and chew to keep himself entertained.

Dovy also loves to spend time with his people, whether that’s inside snuggled on the couch, in his bed beside his foster mom’s desk, relaxing in a sunbeam or running around in the yard chasing his toys or any wild critters that dare enter his space. Dovy will bark at and chase all small animals from the yard but was quite curious about the one cat he met while in foster care. Due to this we would recommend only a VERY dog-savvy cat with a slow and monitored introduction. Dovy has become friends with his Boston foster brother and would be happy to share a home with another similar-sized dog.

Dovy has been working hard in his foster home on his housetraining and since his neuter his desire to mark in the house has significantly decreased, and we now consider Dovy to be fully house trained. That being said, as he settles into his forever home it’s possible the change may bring with it some urine marking indoors so his adopter should be prepared for any temporary relapse.

Dovy has also been working hard on his manners. In an effort to keep four paws on the ground when someone enters the home, he has distracted himself with the job of finding the perfect shoe to entice the house guest to chase him and play. Slowly but surely his foster home is working to transition from a shoe to a toy, and Dovy is starting to catch on. While not overly vocal Dovy will bark when appropriate, for instance when someone enters or exits the home, rings the doorbell or when he needs to let you know that it’s time to play!

Dovy’s vetting is now fully up to date with his neuter being the last item checked off the list. While Dovy’s overall health is great he has tested positive for Lyme. He is not showing any symptoms, and a further urine protein test indicated there has been no impact on his kidneys at this time so no further treatment is required. His forever home will need to continue standard annual heartworm and tick disease testing and monitor for any Lyme symptoms.

Dovy loves to cuddle up on the couch with his people but happily goes into his crate to sleep at night or when you need to go out. His foster family has tested leaving him out of his crate for short periods and the doggy cam has proven he is not destructive when left alone in the home.

Dovy is still working to perfect his leash walking skills but loves to explore on walks with his people. He is also working on getting his basic commands up to snuff. His perfect forever home would understand the countless benefits of continued education. Dovy is a smart little man and we’re certain that he will excel in his training with a dedicated family.

This video really shows Dovy’s personality. The toy destroy. All the smiles. And just the overall delight Dovy finds in everything.

If Dovy could talk we know he would say, “Foster mom, really want to do sit for you but too much happy!”

What doin’ Dovy?

BTRC foster Dovy has been with rescue about a month now. He’s a friendly, super affectionate, happy guy – in fact, one of the manners he is working on is to not jump up to plant sloppy kisses on unsuspecting faces! 💋

Dovy has seen the vet for a full check-up. His overall health is good, but he did test positive for Lyme. He is not showing any symptoms at all, but to be thorough a urine protein test was performed to make sure there wasn’t any impact on his kidneys. Happily, there is not, so there is no current need for any further treatment. Although Dovy did receive an open invitation to visit the clinic anytime for snuggles and kisses!

For the most part, Dovy has been a wonderful house guest. There has been some urine-marking indoors, but his foster is working on this behaviour. We all know that dogs mark to show ownership, but the other most common reason for marking is anxiety associated with a change in routine or environment. And there have been lots of changes for Dovy.

One of those changes was his neuter, which happened earlier this week. (This too should help with the marking). Dovy is back at home and recovering well. As you can see in his picture, he is crossing his paws that the annoying cone will come off soon!

Welcome Dovy!

Dovy is one of two Bostons that came to rescue when sadly and unexpectedly their owner had to move into long-term care.

This big handsome fellow is six years of age and needs to be neutered. He will receive a thorough veterinary check-up so we can tend to whatever other medical care he may require.

We look forward to getting to know him better as he settles in.
