️Frankie has found is Happily-Ever-After!
We are so excited to share that handsome Frankie has found his forever home! We are told that “He is doing very well and settling in beautifully… He is perfect around the house, enjoys a game of afternoon tug and enjoys napping on the deck in the afternoon sunshine. And he’s learning to sleep in until 8am or later!”
We also love the fact that Frankie and his new mom are working on his training, both around the house and out in the world. Frankie has shown some on-leash reactivity to certain stimulus (things) on walks – using counterconditioning and the “click and treat” method, this behaviour is already showing marked improvement!
Congratulations to this newly formed “A” team – while it’s always so rewarding when a dog finds their forever home, it’s even more heart-warming when that dog is a deserving senior. ❤️
Frankie is patient. He’s proven that beyond a doubt by his calm acceptance of being dressed up in costume by his human foster sisters as part of their elementary school project. In fact, we’re sure he loved the attention as much as we loved the final look. 😉
Frankie IS, however, wondering just how much longer he’ll have to wait to be adopted. This special senior wants nothing more than to share his love with his very own forever family.

Frankie is still looking for the right fit in a forever home. 😞 We know he’s older, and while he did surprisingly well making friends with the two other male Bostons in his temporary ‘vacation’ foster home, he’s selective about other animals, especially those he meets on leash.
He’s also patient, playful, great with people of all ages, clever, well-behaved, house and crate trained, and just an all-round wonderful guy with so much love to give.

Frankie-S, the “Silver Boston”
We were going to call him the silver fox, but with no offence to their Canidae cousins, Bostons are more handsome than foxes, especially in Frankie’s case!
Frankie came to BTRC when a change in circumstances meant he could no longer get the attention he needed in his previous home. His foster mom says, “From the moment he arrived Frankie has truly melted our hearts, and is a calming, loving presence in our household.”
Frankie is a fit 23 pounds with almost 11 years experience as a very best friend! Don’t for a moment let his age fool you – he is most definitely young at heart and shows the enthusiasm of a puppy with his boisterous welcome greetings and passion for walks around the block. If his endearing disposition isn’t enough to seduce you, his bright, expressive eyes will surely do the trick.
Frankie’s perfect day is quite simple: A little hypoallergenic kibble breakfast, followed by a short walk, sniffing all the interesting smells as the sun warms up his soft fur. Returning home, there might be a bit of kibble left to savour, and then it’s time to settle down for a snooze in a comfy spot such as his crate where he sleeps at night, his dog bed or on the couch under his foster dad’s favourite fuzzy blanket. At noon it’s another walk or time in the garden, guarding the birdfeeder and helping his foster mom water the plants. Afternoon nap is a must, along with playtime where tug-and-tag and interactive treat dispensing toys are his absolute favourites. Evening time is for dinner and a walk and ends with snuggles on the couch with his human family. He likes to pop by his foster siblings’ bedrooms for a last hug before they go to bed.
Frankie is most definitely a strategist: He is capable of learning new tricks but he is determined to hold out until the promise of a treat is presented! During his time in foster, Frankie has done relaxation training and has learned a few commands: Down, Stay and Touch. Continuing to challenge Frankie with new activities will be quite rewarding and he will learn happily…with the help of snacks.
While the home and the fenced-in yard are his safe spaces, the outdoors are a work in progress for Frankie. Walks can be a challenge: If Frankie encounters a two- or four-legged stranger he didn’t see coming, he will pull and bark. He is, however, very treat-motivated, so a couple of snacks help redirect his attention. Through his time in foster, he has worked on de-escalating and re-conditioning techniques to reduce his reaction to these encounters on his walks.
Frankie is very content at home with his family. Left alone he will howl, but only for a minute or two, before settling down for a nap. Car rides make him anxious and he will vocalize his worry for the duration of his trip. With patience and a training plan, including short, frequent car trips, we’re optimistic that Frankie could learn to enjoy his time as your co-pilot. His favourite place is by your side after all!
Frankie came to BTRC with some red skin and itching, but with a hypoallergenic diet this is greatly approved and it’s likely that some of his scratching behaviour is now simply out of habit.
When safe at home with his family, Frankie is a very quiet dog, only barking when playing or hearing sudden loud noises. While he would do best with company at home more often than not, he is not destructive when left alone. He should be the only furry companion in his household but will do well with children over 6 years old. The noise and energy level of children does not phase him and he remains extremely calm and patient with their big hugs. For Frankie, the more people, the more love and treats to spread around!
This sweet little man is ready to find his forever home. If you are looking for a devoted companion who will steal your heart and turn every day into a new adventure, look no further, Frankie is the one for you. All he asks for is someone who will give him the love and attention he deserves in return. (And treats, he does want there to be treats!)

Frankie is making history!
Move over Hercules, there is a new Greek god making BTRC history and his name is Frankie! Greek gods are divine figures who are known to be statuesque and majestic. It’s no doubt that BTRC foster Frankie fits the bill perfectly. Frankie’s foster sisters were assigned a school project on Greek mythology and he proved to be the perfect model. He took his role very seriously, patiently allowing his foster sisters to dress and pose him. We look forward to seeing what grade Frankie and his foster sisters receive on their hard work! 👌
With Frankie’s A+ attitude, we see great things in his future!

Introducing another Frankie to BTRC!
Frankie came to rescue because his new human baby sibling’s allergy to dogs meant he had to be kept in a separate area of the house and was often isolated from the family. Frankie was understandably not pleased with this new situation and would continually voice his displeasure. For the sake of his happiness, it was decided to find him another home.
Frankie is 11 years old, but his playful and energetic demeanor suggests that the saying, “age is just a number” is true. He has no trouble keeping up with children – his two human foster siblings can attest to that! He enjoys long walks and gets very excited to see his coat, harness or leash. He is a companion in the kitchen, hoping to vacuum up any dropped scraps. Unfortunately, for Frankie, his foster mom is very tidy in her food prep. This has not stopped him from holding onto hope!
Frankie’s foster mom describes him as a “sensitive dog with big soulful eyes.” He enjoys his humans and likes to know where they are at all times. He perks up when his foster sisters arrive home from school and has no issues welcoming human house guests. If left alone, Frankie might howl and whine. He is not destructive, however, and his foster family return from their outings to find him relaxing quietly in his bed or on the couch. He also enjoys sleeping in his crate.
Frankie is reactive to other animals and things that may startle him on walks (squirrels, runners or people coming from behind). Frankie and his foster mom are working with a trainer on strategies to manage this behaviour.
Since his arrival, Frankie has seen the vet and has undergone dental surgery with four teeth removed.
He is being fostered in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario and is not yet ready to be considered for adoption.
