Georgie

Goodbye to Georgie

Back in 2013, a young male dog was found wandering in Toronto, abandoned and ailing, underfed and unneutered. Christened “Georgie”, he was brought into BTRC and began his journey of hope and healing.

Georgie’s ‘cauliflower’ ear was a sign of chronic untreated ear infections, which left him deaf in his left ear. Georgie had lived his life in constant pain, and this caused him to lash out fearfully. With a long road of treatment and recovery, and with the patience and TLC of his foster mom, Georgie blossomed into the very good boy that was always there, hiding behind the hurt.

Georgie found the most perfect home in the quiet countryside with two people dedicated to making sure his future would be the happy one he deserved. Together they enjoyed adventures on the road in their RV, long walks around their property, and lots of cuddle time. They made sure that Georgie kept in touch with his foster family, including his one and only true doggy friend, foster sister and BTRC alum Olive.

On October 30, Georgie’s journey on this earth ended. He was a bright light in the lives of his family, and we join them in mourning his loss. Georgie’s story illustrates rescue as it is supposed to be. He will be forever missed, but he will never be forgotten. 🌈❤️🐾

An update from Georgie’s forever family

We were the lucky ones to get Georgie as an addition to our family from Boston Terrier Rescue Canada. For those of you that followed Georgie’s experience along the way by the postings of his foster mom Nancy, you will know he has had much trauma in his short life. He has now arrived in the quiet countryside with lots of space to take care of his energy and anxiety. His cookie ball still makes its rounds in the house. If the sun is shining you can find him snoozing in the sunbeams. He enjoys his walks of over a mile a day and still finds snow balls to play with on his walks. He is showing his trust and love by allowing care of his ears and climbing up on laps.

An update from foster Mom, Nancy.

It’s been a couple of months now since Georgie had his “TECA” ear surgery and after the initial month of full recovery, he has started to be the boy that was hidden away behind constant discomfort and a hard start in his young life. He is a pleasure in the house and is great with his foster sister, Olive and uncle Echo and two cousin kitties, Rufus and Isabelle.

Georgie has always wanted so much to be a good boy and learn the ropes. He is quick to learn and slow to trust but he has learned that too – trust first and then love – he is understanding it now! And he is learning some pretty great tricks!

Anyway, I am just so grateful that there were many who were willing to give him a chance to be the dog he wants to be. He is still vulnerable and needs an understanding heart but he is a wonderful, quirky, silly, goofy, magnificent boy. If he continues to progress he will be looking for his forever home around February – perhaps a Georgie love story awaits.

An update on Georgie

For those of you who have been following Georgie’s progress, I am happy to say that his surgery went well last Wednesday. He has a bunch of medications to take to help him heal and keep him comfy but already he is more lively and less stressed.

The two weeks going into his operation were hard because he had to be weaned off of the prednisone which kept the inflammation in his ear down. As the days passed it was hard to see him regress into rubbing his head and moaning. I tried to keep his mind busy by using the kong and the cookie ball with treats. It did help but as a result he is now a bit of a chunky monkey but I guess that will be the least of our issues.

He has to be our Candy-Cone boy for another week or so (ten days to two weeks) and he’s good about that, but many things are a bit frustrating. Never mind, upward and onward 🙂

There are many footfalls left on his journey but it is wonderful to see the change in him already with more to come as he heals and forgets about being in pain. That is what I am waiting to see! Anyway, a picture is worth many words and if you want to see him play a little (for the first time!) please have a look at this video.

Georgie thanks everyone, from the bottom of his heart, for all of your well wishes, love and financial support. Without you, he may not have had this chance to heal and start his new life!

Let’s hear it for Georgie!

The plaintive look in his dark, soulful eyes says it all: will you help stop the pain?

Will you help me to hear something other than the hammering in my head?

Georgie, our beautiful, three-year-old Boston was found on the street, abandoned and ailing, underfed and un-neutered. Safe in a Toronto shelter, he was neutered and nourished and thoroughly examined. His left ear, which was suspiciously thickened and crumpled, showed signs of burst blood vessels and a chronic middle ear infection. Once he was safely in the care of BTRC, he spent several weeks being treated for the infection at a Collingwood clinic. But after recently showing renewed signs of pain and discomfort at his foster home, Georgie was checked again. To our dismay, we learned that his middle ear was essentially gone, that his eardrum and tympanic bones had been destroyed by the infection.

Luckily, there’s a solution.

A surgery called Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA) which, in its 25-year history, has been highly successful. The surgery costs approximately $2000.00. The benefits for Georgie? A clean and pain-free ear for the REST of his life. Because his right ear is healthy, he’ll be able to hear more clearly, without interference, for the FIRST time in his life.
