Gracie May was adopted November 16, 2022

Gracie May is Ready for Adoption!

Gracie May comes with many nicknames, from May May to Wiggle Butt!

When Gracie first arrived it took her some time to adjust as she was very nervous and anxious, always looking to Foster Mom for validation. She now has settled in and is very comfortable and content. She is sensitive to your words and most happy when she is with you. Gracie is eager to please and responds well to positive reinforcement and praise.

Gracie loves adventures both on land and on water. She is an avid camper and enjoys bonfires, hiking and exploring the great outdoors. She much prefers to be by the water or ON the water rather than IN it. Sunbathing and digging in the sand or spending time on the paddleboard are her favourites. Actual swimming in the water doesn’t make the list at all but she will chase her favourite toys in the water if needed.

Gracie May is a business walker and likes to walk fast. She doesn’t mess around and wants to go-go-go. She has learned to wait for her current Foster Brother who is the opposite and much prefers to stop and smell the roses (read…pee on every tree or item previously ever peed on). Her leash manners are impeccable, and she will readily and easily dress for the weather. Foster Mom describes her as having the endurance of a 2-year-old with the wisdom of an 8-year-old. Win-win for everyone!!

Gracie loves food – some may say she “mooches” when you are eating dinner – but Foster Mom finds the way she asks very endearing and has a hard time saying no. Her gentle (increasingly forceful as time goes on) pawing of your arm may not be appreciated by all so Gracie has only been allowed to partake in a variety of healthy food options like carrots, cucumbers, pears etc. away from the table or at her food bowl. She very much enjoys her raw cuisine and has done well on this meal plan, even losing a tiny bit of weight so she can show off her waistline (tough to do with the pug genes she has).

Gracie May is not a typical BT toy destroyer. She rarely ever destuffs or defluffs! She likes to lie with a stuffed toy and always brings you a toy as a gift when you arrive home or when you wake up. She will have the toy in her mouth and come grumbling and “talking” while wiggling her butt so excited to see you. Gracie May can be quite protective of toys around other dogs though – quickly and ninja-like stealing them from her Foster Brother. He’s a laid-back dude so doesn’t mind, but it could be an issue with a spicier canine companion.

Truth be told, Gracie would likely prefer a home where she would get all the attention as she has strong opinions about being in charge. She could do well with another dog provided the introductions were very slow and the other dog was calm and would back away and let her be the Queen of the household.

Gracie May gives very subtle clues when she needs to go out. Never barking to be let out, or in, for that matter. This doesn’t mean Gracie is afraid to use her voice – she is a talker and will bark to alert you to a noise she thinks needs further investigation.

It is Gracie May’s divine right to be allowed on the furniture and to sleep in your bed under the covers. Think of her as a heating pad for the upcoming cold nights. She will make her needs known if somehow she no longer has blankets on, not resting until she is let back under the covers. She does enjoy bed hopping too and won’t leave anyone out, choosing to share her snuggles and heating pad vibes with all in the home.

Gracie is not destructive when left alone in the home, simply sleeping on the couch (or a sunny spot) while the family is out. She is very happy to see her humans upon return, even if you were just gone a few minutes. When you come home Gracie is so excited she will dance and wiggle her whole bum while stamping on your chest and licking your face. This is often how she will wake you in the morning as well. Do you know the scene in Frozen with Anna and Elsa…“The sky is awake so I’m awake”? Well, that’s Gracie’s motto!

This smart, loveable, Boston Terrier-Pug mix learns very quickly and knows lots of commands already. She has been wonderful with the three dog savvy children in the Foster Home and has enjoyed “talking” (grumbling) to them about her enjoyment of what is happening. She loves all the attention she gets from them and cuddles are given out tenfold so she has no complaints! Foster Family will be terribly sad to see Gracie May go but they know she will provide another family with so much love in her many years ahead.

Cats are unknown but Gracie May did live with one in her previous home.

Introducing Gracie May!

This adorable 7-year-old female Boston/pug mix came to rescue when circumstances beyond the control of her family meant she needed a new home. Very much loved, parting with Gracie May was a difficult decision, and we are grateful for the trust placed in BTRC to find her a new forever family.

Gracie May is a delightful mix of laid-back and energetic. Cuddle and couch time is wonderful, but she’s also up for any adventure! Change can be stressful, but Gracie May’s fun activities with her active foster family are helping smooth the adjustment.

We are really looking forward to getting to know Gracie May better. In fact, she’s a bit of a talker, so we think she’s just as excited to share her stories as well!

Gracie May is being fostered in the Greater Toronto Area and is not yet ready for adoption.
