ADOPTED: Lexi

Lexi was adopted on Oct 9, 2021

Adoptable – Lovely Lexi!

When Lexi first came to us in June, she was a timid and frightened little girl. We are very pleased with Lexi’s progress under the care and guidance of her wonderful foster home and feel she is ready to find a forever home of her very own!

Lexi is much more confident and playful now but is quiet and gentle. This beautiful 4-year-old girl will always be sensitive to the emotion and noises/activity in the household. Her crate will be her safe haven, but she now readily comes out. Lexi is not a morning dog and may go back to bed (crate) after first let out/breakfast but is ready for a walk once after breakfast. She enjoys a second walk after supper for a daily total of approx. 5 km. This exercise helps to keep her model-like svelte figure to an ideal 17 lbs. 😉

Lexi requires a soft voice and touch, with positive reinforcement only (not difficult because she is such a sweetie! 🤩). Her recall is good; she is excited to greet her foster caregivers when they return home and is always up for a cuddle on your lap.

Lexi greets people cautiously but is friendly with every dog encountered on walks and has previously lived with a border collie and a previous BTRC foster (Tucker) so we assume she would do well with a polite and calm canine sibling. Cats are an unknown but given her gentle nature she could likely live with a dog-savvy feline with proper introduction.

Lexi does have some nighttime incontinence. Still a work in progress, this has improved with medication. She is presently taking Proin Chewable Tablets (25 mg) – ½ tablet twice daily. The cost for 60 tablets, lasting 2 months, is approximately $60. Lexi also eats a vet-prescribed urinary diet kibble.  A 3.5 kg bag will last about 6 weeks for $75.

We also suggest continuing her regime of CBD oil and Rescue Remedy which proven to be effective in supporting her confidence.

Her nemeses are squirrels and chipmunks, but she is content to watch birds all day in a fenced yard. She walks well on leash and is not a door-dasher/exit seeker from the yard, though a fenced yard is recommended due to her easy startle reflex (loud noises, fireworks etc.).

Her fosters tell us that “Lexi has been an absolute pleasure to have in our home and will make an adorable companion for a quiet home with no children.”

Now that you’ve read this far, understand more about Lexi’s needs in a forever home, and feel that you make a good match, we invite you to fill out an application.

GOOD WITH CALM DOGS • NOT CAT TESTED • FENCED YARD PREFERRED • CHILD-FREE HOME

Lexi is being fostered in the Northumberland County region of Ontario.

NOTE: From the time applications are opened, through the selection and screening process, adoptions can take approximately three weeks to finalize. We thank everyone who takes the time to apply, but only those who best fit each dog’s requirements in a forever home will be contacted.

Welcome Lexi!

Another new arrival to BTRC, Lexi was surrendered to rescue because a home with active, young children simply wasn’t a good match for this sensitive and reflective soul. She’s four years old, and her foster describes her as “a long-legged model with her fine features and long neck.”

Lexi is settling in very well so far, enjoying neighbourhood strolls, cuddles and peaceful sojourns in the sun. She’ll need some time to learn how to be less anxious and more social, but as the pictures attest, we’re confident she’ll do just fine with the guidance of her amazing foster home. And of course, we’ll share more as we get to know her better.

NOTE: Lexi is being fostered in Ontario. She is not yet ready to be considered for adoption. BTRC does not maintain a waiting list, so no applications will be accepted at this time.
