L-O-L-A, Adoptable Lola… La-la-la-la Lola

Lola is a sweet senior gal who appreciates the simple things in life – a nice walk, a nap in the sun, snuggling on the couch with her human. She also has a talent for making burritos, well, Lola burritos, by rolling and wrapping herself up in a blanket in her bed or crate.

When Lola was returned to rescue, six years after she was first adopted, the first thing she needed was a thorough veterinary checkup. We’re happy to report that she is in great health! She did need all her routine vetting brought back up-to-date, and a dental. Lola’s mani-pedi was way past due (a lot of us can sympathize with that right now) so getting her nails back to a good length is still a work in progress. She also has a bit of a sensitive tummy, so human food and extra snacks should be limited.

Lola can be both leash and barrier reactive. She has worked very hard on her training, and it will be important that her new person continues to reinforce her much-improved behaviour, with techniques and tips that we will share. Lola is SMART! She responds well to commands and enjoys learning. Liver treats are great rewards, but she’s just as happy to know that you’re pleased with her and values verbal praise and affection above all else.

While fully housetrained, Lola does need more frequent pee breaks, so regular access to outside is needed. Although not destructive when left loose in the home, she is also crate-trained, and this does help with the occasional “accident”.

Ideally, a no-pet, adult-only retirement home is what will make Lola happiest in her sunset years. A fenced yard would be a bonus. Lola promises that her loving companionship and winning personality will make the need for a second pet superfluous. [She actually used the word superfluous, honest, we had to look it up. We told you she was smart! ]

Welcome Home Lola

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada makes a promise to each dog that comes through our program: “You will never be homeless again”. We stand by our rescued dogs for their entire lives, and if for any reason they can no longer be cared for, we welcome them back.

Lola was adopted in 2015 and returned to BTRC this past week. It’s an unfortunate situation when a senior finds themselves in need of a new place to call home, but instead of being sad, let’s focus instead on what’s ahead for this deserving girl.

Lola’s nails are overgrown and it’s been a while since she’s seen a vet, so our priority is to get her in for a thorough checkup. We know that Lola is reactive to other dogs, especially on leash, but since you CAN teach an old dog new tricks, we’ll have her behaviourally assessed and start work on positive-reinforcement training.

And, if a no-pet retirement home is what will make Lola happy in her sunset years, she will be safe and loved until that perfect match is found.

NOTE: Lola is being fostered in Ontario and is on an assessment hold.
