ADOPTED: Olive

Olive was adopted on October 4, 2021

Adoptable Olive

Olive is an adorable and affectionate 25 lb. Boston Terrier who will celebrate her 2nd birthday in late November. She is spayed, fully vetted, and in good health.

Olive is housetrained and crate trained but much prefers to lay quietly on a dog bed (or snuggled in the human bed if she can manage it) for the night. She walks well on leash, only pulling when someone comes close. She will bark to alert you if she hears something but calms quickly. She has no separation anxiety and is content to be left on her own for a few hours.

Sounds perfect, right? Yes – she is. Perfect for the right family in the right environment.

When Olive becomes too excited, she can become reactive. In her previous home she would respond to what might seem normal stimuli, like playful, noisy children, with a higher-than-normal level of intensity. This could involve running around, barking, jumping up and even nipping/biting at things and people around her. Since her arrival in May, Olive has worked successfully with a trainer to help overcome her inappropriate reactions, but whoever adopts Olive will need to understand this part of her personality and commit to what it will take for her to succeed in her forever home. She will benefit from continued training and will require proper management to prevent her from becoming over-stimulated.

As much as Olive loves cuddles and belly rubs, she also loves putting food in that belly – so while that’s great for training purposes, she would definitely steal food from small children given the opportunity.

For the above reasons, the best match for Olive would be in a quieter, adult-only home.

Olive can be dog selective, but could possibly live with another canine friend, if that dog is confident and calm. A dog slightly larger than her would probably help keep her need to “bully” better under control. No feline friends, however.

Now that you’ve read this far, understand more about Olive, and feel that you can provide her with a loving, forever home, we invite you to fill out an application.

Olive is being fostered in Cambridge, Ontario.

NOTE: From the time applications are opened, through the selection and screening process, adoptions can take approximately three weeks to finalize. We thank everyone who takes the time to apply, but only those who best fit each dog’s requirements in a forever home will be contacted.

We’d like to introduce our newest arrival to Olive you!

Olive is a pretty, one-and-a-half year old single breed Boston Terrier. The decision to surrender her to BTRC was a very difficult one for her family. Olive is easily excitable, and over-stimulation can cause reactive behaviour. Living in a home with children and being obsessed with the resident felines was not a good fit, as hard as they tried to make it work for all.

We look forward to learning all about Olive’s personality and getting to know her better. Because of Covid, she has had little experience with other dogs, so she’ll be properly introduced to some new canine friends. She’s been to our vet and is in good overall health – although a little too curvaceous and has some trouble holding her “licker”! .

Olive is currently being assessed by a trainer, who, using positive methods, will tailor a program to help her with her manners and impulse-control. We are optimistic that this smart and friendly girl will succeed and will one day in the not-too-distant future be ready to find her perfect forever home!

NOTE: Olive is being fostered in the Waterloo Region of Ontario and is not yet ready for adoption. We do not maintain an adoption waiting list. As soon as she is ready to find his forever home, we will open up the applications and post to social media.
