Rebel was adopted on March, 22, 2024.

317 days. That’s how long Rebel was in foster care. But as the saying goes, “Good things come to those who wait,” which is so true for this deserving boy.

On the day he was to meet his forever family, Rebel sat patiently on the sidewalk – he knew something was up, but he couldn’t quite put his paw on it. Then, two people appeared and from first glance, he knew – he was looking at his happily ever after.

Shortly after Rebel arrived at his new home, his parents said, “Rebel is amazing! We are falling in love with him already.”

This story’s happy ending was worth the wait. ❤ We’re so happy for you, Rebel!

Rebel wants a forever home!

Rebel was surrendered to BTRC in the spring of 2023 along with his Boston Terrier sister, Bella, who has since been adopted.

Because the pair was left alone for long periods, they lacked physical activity, and Rebel naturally became a little plump. Since being in foster care, he still rocks a full figure, but he does so in a much healthier way. He is having fun staying fit with an appropriate diet and regular exercise. Though Rebel has made great strides in his weight loss journey, his foster mom had endearingly referred to him as “Chunky Monkey,” and like most nicknames, it just stuck. 😂

What stands out about Rebel are his expressive eyes, and his chill and patient personality. Rebel is very smart and quickly picks up new commands. His desire to please is accelerated when he knows he is doing a good job – all Rebel wants is to be a good boy. ❤ Because he thrives on social interaction, Rebel is best suited for a family that is home more often than not.

Rebel arrived at his foster home not knowing how to walk on leash and was anxious in the car. He now looks forward to cruising and will jump in the car without hesitation. Rebel loves his daily walks and has learned to slow down and not pull. As long as he has time to get some sniffs and pees in, Rebel is a happy walking companion. Another favourite for Rebel is snuggles. He loves leaning into his people as a sign of affection. Rebel has a beautiful voice, but given that he does like to ‘talk,’ a detached home would be most suitable for him.

Rebel was always patient and easy going with the somewhat bossy Bella and has made other canine friends as well. He would do well in a home with another dog and older children who like a good mix of snuggles and play. He was known to chase cats in his previous home, so Rebel’s forever home must be feline-free.

Rebel is fully house-trained, microchipped, and has received all necessary vetting. He prefers sleeping on the couch at bedtime to keep it warm for your morning greetings and snuggles. If you are looking for a loving, playful, and affectionate companion, please complete the Adoption Form HERE.

Dear Valentine,

When I think of you, I imagine long walks where we can take in beautiful sights and delicious smells. I can already feel your arms around me as we doze off for a nap. The thought of your hands caressing my face makes my tail tingle.

I vow to be a good boy and will work to make you happy each and every day. In the mornings, I will greet you with a song (I write my own lyrics and I’ve been told I have quite the singing voice 😉). I don’t even mind sharing you – there’s no need to be your one and only.

Forever family, are you out there? I dream of you each night. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time, but I refuse to lose hope. I believe in fairy tales and my happily-ever-after is worth waiting for.

❤❤❤❤❤

Rebel is on the market and ready to settle down into a forever home. Will you be his Valentine?

Dear Santa Paws,

It’s us, “the twins,” Rebel and Bella. We’ve been working so hard this year to be the very best little girl and boy. Our foster mom says that we’re so well behaved, we didn’t even fuss when she wanted to dress us up for our pictures to send you!

We both have the very same wish and it’s for a home and a human to call our very own. Our Foster mom showed us all the pictures that she took of us, and we really hope our future family sees them and can’t resist just how cute we really are!

We know that a forever home is a big ask so if that’s not possible just yet, Rebel would still like some more information on his biological family and ancestral roots. Rebel likes to sing so a karaoke machine might be cool. Bella would love a nice fluffy blanket to cuddle up in or a nice new bone for us both to chew on (we don’t mind sharing).

Thanks Santa Paws!

Rebel and Bella

Rebel and Bella are up to some mischief!

Our sweet and snuggly siblings, Rebel and Bella, love to do everything together – sleep, play, snuggle, relax – and, like many siblings, have sneaky conversations out of earshot from their foster mom (more on that later!).

Since coming into BTRC’s care, Rebel and Bella have both:

  • improved their leash walking
  • been committed to healthy diets and exercise
  • recovered well from their medical procedures
  • met new furry friends
  • become less anxious during car rides

Rebel and Bella have so many similarities, they basically consider themselves twins. On top of this, their foster mom replaced Bella’s pink collar and Rebel’s blue collar with matching red collars. Rebel and Bella think this is hilarious – now without their different coloured collars, how will people ever tell them apart? 🤣

They have been scheming behind their foster mom’s back and are engineering an identity swap. They are giddy thinking about all the fun they will have.

Rebel and Bella seem so excited about their “Parent Trap,” that we don’t have the heart to tell them…🤐

Rebel and Bella are being fostered in the Niagara Region of Ontario and are not ready to be considered for adoption.

With a Rebel yell, he cried no more cone!

Our foster boy Rebel had a very big day at the vet’s late last month. And he got the cone to prove it!

Rebel was neutered, had a small lump removed from his hind leg, and his umbilical hernia was repaired. Truthfully, though, he didn’t cry at all. (Well, aside from a little whimper which he figured was bound to get him an extra sympathy snack. 😉)  Rebel was a brave boy and a well-behaved patient through his recovery.

Umbilical hernias are the most common type of hernia in dogs. We can’t be sure of the cause – the majority are hereditary, and the dog is born with it. As Rebel is an adult, his could have been there his whole life or may have been caused by a later trauma. The good news is that Rebel’s hernia was “uncomplicated”, meaning it contained only fatty tissue and the surgical repair was a success.

While we’re still waiting for confirmation, it’s suspected that the lump was nothing to worry about – a lipoma, which is a harmless fatty growth. As he was already under anaesthetic for the other procedures, it was decided to remove it at the same time. While under sedation, Rebel was also microchipped, and his mouth was x-rayed in preparation for his dental later in July.

Though he came home with lots of stitches on various parts of his body, he figures it’s not a bad look for a guy named Rebel! The only thing that he seemed bothered by was that cone cramping his style. His sister, BTRC foster Bella, who is usually excited for playtime with her brother, was quite suspicious of Rebel’s new accessory and decided to keep her distance and let Rebel and the cone play on their own. Things are now back to the status quo, and Bella is once again bossing her bro around!

Congrats, Rebel, on three successful surgeries! 🤘🏼

June 2023 Update

BTRC fosters Rebel and Bella are having a blast in their foster home! They are both very playful and love frolicking in the yard. They enjoy their daily walks as much as they enjoy their snooze time. Rebel is vocal in the evenings, but with regular reminders from his foster mom, he is learning that nighttime means quiet time.

Rebel’s neuter surgery has been scheduled and a hernia will be repaired at the same time. He has a lump on his leg that will be examined and both dogs will also undergo dental exams.

While it might gross out the general public, dog people know to pay attention to their dog’s poop. Our observant foster mom noticed some white grain-like creepy crawlers while on dog doody pick up duty, which turned out to be tapeworms. While definitely gross, the common tapeworm rarely causes serious health issues in adult dogs. Tapeworms are caused when a dog swallows a flea infected with a tapeworm larvae. Rebel and Bella are being treated with dewormer and like all BTRC fosters, are now on a monthly parasite prevention to prevent future infection.

Each day, Rebel and Bella show more of their personalities. Rebel has proven to be a patient brother and Bella the typical bossy older sister. When we asked Rebel how he felt about the situation, he said, “Having an annoying sibling is just part of growing up, isn’t it?” Don’t worry, Rebel, you’re not alone. Many of us can relate!

Rebel and Bella are being fostered in the Niagara Region of Ontario and are not ready to be considered for adoption.

Introducing Rebel

Rebel came to BTRC along with Bella. Both were surrendered because changes to their owner’s work schedule meant they were being left alone for long periods of time. The difficult decision was made to surrender them so they could get the time and attention they deserve.

Bella is a 10-year-old Boston Terrier and Rebel is a 9-year-old Pug/Beagle mix (with a sprinkling of honourary Boston Terrier in there too). Their foster mom says they have enjoyed some time outside, exploring all the new smells in the yard. Rebel has already lived up to his name, pulling hard on walks in anticipation of the exciting things he might discover. Both Rebel and Bella can be described, politely, as a tad ‘chunky’ – although Bella insists she is not overweight, simply big-boned! So more exercise will be good for their physiques as well as for learning better leash manners.

We will have lots more to share as we get to know this cute pair. For now, we are allowing them time to adjust to their new surroundings.

Bella and Rebel are being fostered in the Niagara Region of Ontario and are not ready to be considered for adoption.
