Ripley was adopted April 12, 2022

Ripley’s Ready for Adoption!

This adoption has been a while coming. And that’s not Ripley’s fault. This sweet girl has some specific needs in a forever home, and it took us a while to make sure that we understood them so we could make the just the right match.

Ripley, first of all, is a Boston Terrier of the honourary kind. She is mostly French Bulldog with a little bit of Cane Corso in the mix. DNA truth! Just two years of age, adorable Ripley is smart, affectionate, and active. Her size is definitely due to her Frenchie genes – she is 26 lbs., healthy, and fully up to date on all her vetting.

The ideal candidates for Ripley will be adults (or a family with teenage children) who lead an active lifestyle and have one or more friendly canine companions for Ripley to play with. Ripley is not shy about making her voice heard, so an apartment or condo setting won’t work.

Likes:

  • LOVES her people. To be near them, to cuddle with them and to go with them when they leave. She is a true velcro dog.
  • Car rides. Loves to come along and is very well-behaved in the car.
  • Another doggie playmate in the house. Ripley has played tug of war with other dogs and enjoys the activity they bring to her life. She is also more relaxed when she has the company of a canine companion.
  • Cats – a hard maybe? There were no cats in her foster home, and her reaction to meeting a kitty at a friend’s home was a bit intense, so the best we can offer is possibly, but probably no.
  • Enjoys getting out going for walks and with some training may even be a running or jogging partner for the right person.
  • Something to do. Even though the working breed makes up a scant 1-9% of her DNA, it’s there, and she would likely excel at a dog sport.
  • Her favourite toys are balls that she can play fetch with and things she can chew like nylabones or antlers. She is definitely an aggressive chewer! Any toy she can destroy should only be played with under supervision to be sure she doesn’t ingest any pieces.

Dislikes:

  • Not many. Being left alone for long stretches. Being without a canine companion.
  • If left to her own devices she can make her own fun and this can cause her to get into things and chew things in a house.

Need-To-Know:

  • Ripley has two speeds – playful young pup and couch potato, and there is not a lot in between. To keep her out of trouble during her playful periods she needs a watchful eye and someone/something to keep her entertained.
  • Ripley can be very vocal. She can usually be redirected in the house with a toy or a treat. (It’s recommended treats be given after a certain period of quiet so as not to reward her barking.)
  • On walks Ripley sometimes needs reminding that she is there for some exercise – not to talk to everybody in the neighborhood – or to grab any ‘treasures’ she might find on the ground!
  • Ripley is currently on Prozac for anxiety. This medication was introduced to help Ripley become more receptive to positive reinforcement training. We recommend you discuss this treatment with your veterinary professional as this is not a medication that can be stopped suddenly. Interactions with other natural calming products can also occur so these cannot be given in conjunction with her medication.
  • Ripley is lively and excitable. She jumps up and will even ‘pop’ your face with her snout if she can reach. This is not an aggressive behaviour, but young kids or those with unsteady footing could easily be knocked over, so adults and older kids only please.
  • Ripley is fully house trained.
  • Ripley is crate trained but often has to be picked up and put in her crate, her fosters continue work with her going to her crate when told.

Ripley is a unique mix, undeniably adorable, and a loving and intelligent companion who will make a wonderful addition to the right home. If you can provide that home, please fill out an application form, found HERE.

RIPLEY • SPAYED FEMALE • FULLY VETTED • 2 YEARS • 26 LBS • ADULT HOME • FOSTERED IN BRANTFORD, ON

Note: From the time applications are opened, through the selection and screening process, adoptions can take approximately three weeks to finalize. We thank everyone who takes the time to apply, but only those who best fit each dog’s requirements in a forever home will be contacted.

Welcome (Back) Ripley

Ripley decided to kick off her arrival to BTRC by making a great escape from her trainer’s. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Ground Search and Rescue Kitchener-Waterloo, BTRC volunteers, the Tri-Cities community and our social media followers who shared and cared, Ripley was found safe and is now back in her foster home.

After an intense three days on the lam, Ripley was immediately taken to the emergency veterinary clinic who found her to be in remarkably good physical condition – her core temperature was fine, she was not dehydrated and had suffered no frostbite. She was also not hungry, having chowed down on the stinky mackerel used to bait the trap!

Ripley, who is at best guess a Boston/Frenchie mix, celebrated her second birthday on the 19th of November 2021. She was surrendered to rescue as her owners were moving and could not bring her along. We do know from her intake paperwork that she has some behavioural issues to work on, but at this point we are simply letting her destress and recoup from her unplanned adventure.

After shaving several years off the lives of our BTRC volunteers, Ripley will now get the care and training she needs to make all the years of HER life the very best they can be!
