Move Your Way 5K:
September 3-6, 2021

From Victoria, BC to Halifax, NS, Boston Terrier Rescue Canada supporters ‘moved their way’ to raise much-needed funds for dogs in rescue’s care!

Hermann and his human Ora didn’t let an injury stop them from completing their 5k!

The first 5K for BTRC was held in June of 2020. With in-person events cancelled due to Covid-19, the virtual format allowed everyone to participate on their own, from where they lived, and at their own convenience. For 2021, we renamed the ‘Race for Rescues’ to the ‘Move Your Way 5K’ to better reflect the event’s goals – to encourage people to get active while supporting a cause close to their hearts. Participants were invited to walk, wheel, jog, hop, sashay or strut… with or without their pets… to complete a total distance of 5 kilometres over the course of the Labour Day long weekend.

Ora and Pauli from Ottawa put in a combined distance of over 30 km! Pauli ran 5 x 5k, while their Boston Terrier Hermann decided to accompany Ora on her 5k – which she completed in an air cast!

BTRC foster dogs Boomer and Rosie participated. And the ‘BT Mamas’ team from Halifax, NS included three BTRC alum: Herb, Solo and Morty.

Those who raised a minimum of $50 in pledges received a BTRC custom buff, a sample of dog food from event sponsor NOOD®, and a digital race certificate and medal. Their names were also entered into a random draw to win prizes from our other generous MYW 5K sponsors:

Halifax’s team, the ‘BT Mamas’

Almost $7500 was raised to help cover veterinary expenses and other associated costs for our deserving foster dogs. A special shout-out to our top fundraiser, Carrie C. and her daughter Maddie. Maddie walked some neighbourhood dogs as part of the 5k. On top of their fundraising, 8-year-old Maddie raised $80 from her dog-walking endeavours and donated that to BTRC as well. Thank you Maddie (and Mom, too of course)!

We are already thinking of ways to build on this year’s success for 2022. In the meantime, we invite you to join BTRC’s ResQwalk Facebook group, where members use a free smart phone app to raise money for every time they go for a walk, run or bike ride and share their adventures with other ResQwalk users.
