Are you ready for a life of love, laughter and Lightning?

Little Miss Lightning is looking for her forever home. She was surrendered to BTRC because she wasn’t getting along with the two other resident female dogs. In foster care, she has been working hard to be the best girl she can be and has made several canine friends.

When one-year-old Lightning first arrived at her foster home, she was quite shy and nervous about meeting new people and pups. Downtown Toronto vibes (and a new wardrobe) have helped Lightning become a confident and friendly dog. She greets many doggy neighbours during her outings and has even had some canine pals over for some playtime. Her foster parents have been teaching her to respect boundaries when other dogs don’t want to play with her, so she would do best with a patient dog who can tolerate a “typical” (i.e., sometimes annoying) little sister. Lightning befriended her foster Uncle’s cat during a visit to his home, so she would be fine living with a cat who likes dogs.

Lightning loves people, but it takes some time for her to warm up to new humans, especially men. She’s becoming more comfortable with strangers she meets outside the home by the day. On the other paw, visitors to the house get a grand greeting. Her foster parents are teaching her how to use an indoor voice when she hears sounds outside the front door.

When Lightning is not snuggled up with someone, she’s practicing her tricks (sit, down, stay, wait, paw, spin, up) or playing with her foster parents. Lightning still has a lot of ‘puppy’ in her personality. Though she prides herself on her top-notch wrestling skills, in the excitement of the moment, she can mistake a hand for a toy. Little kids might feel like they’ve been, well, struck by Lightning, so a home with older children who can understand and appreciate she is still working on her manners would be the best fit for her.

Lightning has a lot of energy and enjoys three long walks a day. If it’s cold or raining outside, she prefers to stay indoors and relax, but most days, she is ready to rip! Though Lightning has a crate, she’d rather lounge on furniture or sleep in the human bed. When her foster parents leave, she is a very good girl and patiently waits for them to return home. She is not destructive when left alone (but you might find some shoes scattered throughout the house!). Lightning is still young and learning, so she needs a consistent routine with plenty of mental stimulation. Her ideal family will lead an active lifestyle, not leave her alone for extended periods, and commit to ongoing training using positive reinforcement.

Lightning is fully house-trained, microchipped, and has received all necessary vetting. If you are looking for an energetic, playful, and loving companion, please complete the Adoption Form, found HERE.

Lightning has recovered in a flash!

Nothing stops Little Miss Lightning! After her spay and dental surgery, Lightning’s foster parents told her to take it easy, but this one-year-old girl hasn’t skipped a beat. Upon arriving home, she welcomed a bowl of softened kibble and insisted she be allowed to stay up late. Fighting the effects of anesthesia, Lightning worked hard to keep one eye on the television. Her foster parents were watching RuPaul’s Drag Race, and she didn’t want to miss who was eliminated. 😂

To celebrate healing from surgery, Lightning visited her foster uncle for Easter dinner. She relished all the attention from her extended foster family and also made a new BFF – the resident cat, Pip! It was love at first sight and the pair played like old friends. Lightning even made herself at home in Pip’s bed. 😻

Surrendered because she was not getting along with dogs in her former home, Lightning has made great strides since being in foster care. She has canine friends and has now added a feline to her roster of pals!

Keep up the good work, Lightning!

Total cost of Lightning’s surgeries: $617.91

Lighting is one!

BTRC foster Lightning recently celebrated her first birthday. She is excited that her age will now be measured in years and not months (she was told she is now officially a “big girl”). Her day started off with her favourite frozen treat followed by a long nap. She also enjoyed some time outdoors exploring more of her neighbourhood and then of course, another nap.

Lightning’s foster mom made homemade birthday cupcakes which Lightning happily shared with her German Shepherd neighbour, Zeke. Her sharing mood also extended to her canine friend, Fancy, who visited that evening. If you recall, Lightning came to BTRC because she was not getting along well with two other female dogs in her home, so we are happy that she can make canine friends!

Opening presents was Lightning’s favourite part of the day because it meant treats, treats and more treats! She also scored a leopard onesie that makes her strut a little more on walks (leopard prints tends to have that effect 🐆😉).

Happy Birthday to our “big girl,” Lightning!

It’s a bird, it’s a plane…it’s Lightning!

This 11-month-old superhero recently joined BTRC as, unfortunately, she wasn’t a good fit with the two other female dogs in the home.

Though she has just arrived, Lightning has made quite the impression on her foster parents with her friendly, energetic and cuddly personality. Though she is still working on her potty training, she has caught on to her new routine quickly and is improving with each day.

Lightning has a dental and spay in the near future, but for now we are allowing her to settle into her new environment and make herself at home. It seems like she has no trouble doing just that – you will often find her in unique (and hilarious) sleeping positions. 😂
