ADOPTED: Monty

Monty was adopted on Feb 15, 2021

The Full Monty!

Look who’s ready for adoption! More popular than a certain US politician’s mittens, BTRC has received so many inquiries about this handsome fellow since his arrival in November.

When Monty came to Rescue, using mittens to handle him wasn’t a bad idea. His foster dad, an experienced dog trainer, has been dedicated to working with Monty to overcome his tendency to bite, and this handsome boy has come such a long way! It’s now felt that Monty is ready to continue to work on his manners in his forever home.

Monty will need an experienced owner who understands positive-reinforcement training – and that giving in to Monty’s beautiful puppy-dog eyes isn’t always what’s best for him. Monty does still get fixated on things that get him excited but using the methods that we will share it’s become much easier to calm and redirect him.

Monty has enjoyed learning basic obedience skills – liver treats make learning fun! He does need continued work on his housetraining, but with patience and consistency, we’re sure he’ll figure this out in short order too. He enjoys a walk and does well on leash, unless something grabs his attent…. Squirrel!

He’s an energetic lean machine, and was a little underweight, but has put on a pound or two and is now about 18 lbs.

Monty will be happiest in a home with adults who are understanding of his need for structure. He’s done well with all dogs he’s met but cats are unknown.

MONTY IS LOCATED IN THE KITCHENER-WATERLOO REGION, ON • 10 MONTHS • NEUTERED • FULLY VETTED & MICROCHIPPED • CHILD-FREE HOME

Welcome adorable Monty!

Monty is a 7 month old light-brown boston with the most beautiful eyes! Monty is quite a handful and his previous owners did not have experience with training dogs and wanted him to find a loving furever home ready to help him grow into a well behaved boy.

What we know so far about this cutie-pie is that he is full of life, curious and energetic.  He loves to nap in the sun, cuddle and have his belly rubbed.  Monty enjoys walks and munchin’ on stuff he finds on the ground.  He likes to play tug-of-war and chase tennis balls (however still learning the concept of ‘go fetch’).  He enjoys looking out the house and car windows – taking in his new world!

We want to be clear though that Monty is not a perfect puppy. His BTRC foster dad is an experienced trainer and will be working on his resource guarding and strong tendency to nip, it’s imperative that we teach him at this young age that biting is not an acceptable behaviour. Good news is that he can sit for treats and will gently take them when given so we are feeling confident that he can learn his manners.

NOTE: Monty is being fostered in Ontario. He isn’t up for adoption yet and won’t be until he has been fully assessed. As soon as he’s ready, we will open up the applications and let everyone know on social media. Stay tuned for updates!
