SET FOR LIFE: Trooper

IN MEMORY OF TROOPER GEORGIE

218 days. Plenty of time to forget what came before. To go from a nameless stray to member of a family, with not one but two names: Trooper Georgie.

Lots of time to know what it was like to be wanted, and important and cared for. And loved. Very much loved…

To get so excited for family adventures and daily walks and sunshine sleeps. For cuddles and pats and treats. To shake your head at the antics of your Boston Terrier little brother. Plenty of time for all of that and more.

But still, not enough time. No matter how many days, it’s never enough time.

RIP Trooper Georgie. Although technically TG remained a “foster” in our Set for Life program, he truly belonged to his amazing foster moms. They write:

“We feel so lucky to have had Georgie in our lives. He was such a sweet, gentle and loving dog. Despite everything he went through – he was such a “trooper”, and didn’t let his challenges stop him from enjoying life. He just wanted to be on the couch beside you and have his belly rubbed. But his most favourite thing was to go for walks. Rain or shine, snowstorms and -20, he was at the door always waiting and ready to go.

We will always remember all his funny little antics like loving to squish his face into the corner of the couch, or how he always wanted to be on top of the blanket rather than be covered. We’ll always remember his cute owl-like noises when it was time to go for a walk or how he would look at you, roll on his side and lift his paw indicating it was time for you to pet his chest.

He will forever be in our hearts. We love him so much. Thank you to BTRC for all the support and kindness during our first foster experience.”

Found as a stray and brought to the shelter, Trooper Georgie (aka TG) is approximately 6-7 years old. He was transferred to BTRC’s care because of serious medical issues.
A complicated surgery to remove an enormous mass from his rear leg was performed, and sadly, a biopsy confirmed the tumour malignant. TG has recovered well from this operation, but unfortunately, several new lumps have appeared since and are growing quickly. As a part of our Ana-Maria Davies Memorial Set for Life Program, BTRC has a palliative treatment plan in place to ensure this sweet boy has the best quality of life for as long as possible.
TG really is a ‘trooper’, and despite his cancer diagnosis, his true personality has begun to shine through. He is a wonderful dog.
While he shows more interest in playing with toys, his absolute favourite number one thing to do is to go on walks with his foster brother. TG still has a slight limp from his surgery, but mostly it’s his front paw that is the limiting factor. When he gets tired, his front leg will start to give out, causing him to stumble, so his outdoor adventures are kept shorter and more frequent.
TG definitely enjoys his food and seems to be making up for all the yummy things he’d been missing out on. He gobbles his meals, loves all dog treats, most veggies and of course, cheese.
BTRC is so very thankful for his wonderful foster moms. They write, “He is really just the sweetest! So gentle. Loves pets and cuddles. Doesn’t move away when we hug and kiss him a hundred times a day. He is patient and lets us get him ready to go out and to wipe his feet. We are cherishing our time with him.
WELCOME TROOPER AKA TROOPER GEORGE (Formerly MR. NO-NAME)
Found as a stray and brought to a Quebec shelter, this neutered male is approximately 6-7 years old. He was transferred to rescue because of urgent medical issues, the most distressing of which is three large growths on his rear right leg. He also is showing some weakness in one of his front legs.
Now out of the shelter and with BTRC, appointments have already been made so that he can be fully assessed medically and plans put in place to get him appropriate treatment asap. He will not be up for adoption until we have a full diagnosis and prognosis.
While we don’t know him well, so far Mr. No-Name has been very sweet, and really appreciative of all the pets, cuddles and affection he’s receiving from his foster caregiver.
It’s sad to think of everything he’s lost as a stray, including his name.
We opened a poll and our supporters voted for the name Trooper. Trooper’s foster Mom is partial to George so please welcome Trooper George!
